Injecting kevzara correctly ?

Posted by ronludington @ronludington, 21 hours ago

2 questions:
1) When I use the autopen to inject into my thigh, it leaves the telltale ring where the pen pressed into my leg , with the puncture in the center. But there is never any raised lump where you can tell the medicine went in. It obviously does as the pen is empty, but is it going to deep ? (I used to get that lump when injecting methotrexate)
2) does anyone leave the pen out overnight before injecting ? I usually inject around 9 am, so I have to pull it out of my secondary refrigerator in my basement in the morning. (Just hard to do those stairs first thing in the morning)

Hi Ron,

I don't take Kevzara, but I do inject Avonex IM weekly for MS. I've read the Kevzara instructions and, like Avonex, it can be stored at room temperature for 14 days. So I would say, yes, you can take it out of the refrigerator the night before. I take Avonex on Friday nights and often leave it out for 6-8 hours before injecting.

As far as the injection site, unless you've heard that there should be a lump I would not be concerned. Of course, you can contact your doctor or PA if you are worried. The medication is obviously going in and likely diffusing into the tissue. Again, call or write your doctor's office or even contact Sanofi. They will probably be able to respond to any concerns about proper injection. Sanofi's number from their website: 1-844-KEVZARA. Good luck.

@sjw519 Sanofi is pretty worthless, I've called them, and they no nothing other than what's on the pamphlet that you download. And that's talking with thier so called expert....
But thank you for your reply, very much appreciated!

That's disappointing. I found Biogen very helpful when I first started with Avonex.

Ron- As stated above asking a Pharmasist would be the best resouce. In my opinion the needle is only so long so can not go to deep. I did not get a lump when first starting on Kevzara but now get reaction at site. The lump turns into a raised welt about 1.5 inched wide and 3 inches long. Stopped giving it in my leg because of bruising at site. I alternate sites and pinch there area so goes into fat area. I have showed picture to RA and shared the info with Pharmasist. They was not concerned about the reaction from med. I have taken Kevzara for less than a year.

I put it in my abdomen…..following instructions, different locations around belly button at a set distance. No bubbles or Lumps. Occasionally a ring for brief moment.
Read instructions……yes you can take out overnight….but don’t do it in a hot house..,,.my AC is on nd keeps house at 78°. I take it out last thing before hitting the pillow and use it after brushing my teeth in the morning.
