Evenity is suggested by my Encrinologist, but not sure what to do
My Dr wants to start me on Evenity. My scores are Spine -2.4, Femoral neck -2.6, Total hip -1.6, But then I also was told I -2.9, not sure how these scores work. My health issues before even starting is I already have Gerd, off/on pain in my middle back, sciatic nerve issue, Arthritis (hands, back). Never had a fracture or broken bones. I take Alendonate now for about 2 years and took it about 10 years ago for a 5 year period. I'm told the inside of my bones are strong but the outside is deteroriating. Reading reviews, I really wonder why I should do this when I'm not feeling bad, feel aches/pains but nothing major. Almost feel like this could be like a cancer treatment. Very concerned!

It would be helpful to know your age. Your DEXA scores aren't that severe, only your femoral neck is slightly above the osteoporosis range. Take time to do some research so you are comfortable with your decision. Remember that bones change very slowly, so you have time to do this.
Also, after Evenity you will have to go back on a bisphosphonate to keep your gains. Since you already have GERD, oral Fosamax might aggravate that. There's Reclast infusions, so you will want to research them also.

1 ReactionI had a fracture with a lumbar spine T-score that was -1.6. So, T-scores aren’t always the best predictor of a fracture. And many people have osteoporosis and never fracture.
I would ask my endocrinologist to explain their thinking regarding starting you on Evenity, especially since you’ve never fractured. It could be they have a very good explanation for recommending it. It may also have to do with seeing the progression of deterioration of the outside of your bones.
The medications you’ve been on do not help you build new bone; they only slow down the breakdown of your old bone. They can also contribute to your bones becoming more brittle over time.
Since you have GERD, the medication you may be on to address it may have also contributed to bone loss as it impacts your ability to absorb calcium from your diet.
Only a guess on my part, but it sounds like your doctor wants you to build new bone and Evenity will help you do that.
Osteoporosis is a silent disease in that you may feel well until you fracture.
