Stopping metoprolol
I recently had cardiac ablation for PSVTs. They took my metoprolol from 75mg/day to 25mg. (Been taking this for ten years)
Lately my heart has been pounding hard but not fast. Just exertion. I have been doing light easy walks again to get back into the swing of things and doing everything else right trying to heal, It has been about 5 weeks since the ablation. I finally called the EP nurse to make sure these hard feeling beats were ok and not something else going on. They have decided the metoprolol could be causing this and have advised me to quit …… cold turkey. Has anyone else ever just quit. I know we shouldn’t rely on the internet too much but so many sites say do not stop metoprolol abruptly. Just curious what anyone else has gone through with this.

@vjs003 Don't know the rest of your story and situation. Sounds like a talk with your doc would be a better idea. Good luck. We are all different on this journey.
Tapered down and stopped and living with persistent afib for 5 years ! Refused ablations with my amyloidosis And managing heart with both cardiologists on board !

I am only passing on my experience with this. They call it heart focus. When you have heart issues your mind fixation is on your heart. You will feel heart beating much more than if not heart focussed.
I am not saying what you are feeling or you personally but what I was told was happening to me. I know it but when heart flares up and have a lot of PVCs or tachycardia my mind focusses on my heart beat and can feel it. I know when not having issues don't do this but is just a natural thing for your mind to do.
Metoprolol is a good medication. I take something similar Mexiletine. Talked to your doctors about magnesium taurate. It is another type of magnesium that has been shown to be beneficial also. What I do it take both types, the glycinate and the taurate (just started the taurate) so will not know if helps. But I split my recommended by my EP 400 mg of magnesium to two different forms.
I had been on metoprolol 25 mg for PSVTS for 5 year when I began to deal with bradycardia.
I had to go off Metoprolol cold turkey in the diagnosis process to determine whether the bradycardia was caused by the Metoprolol. My BP shot up through the roof to stroke level and I quickly had to start 100 Mg of Losartan. Apparently the Metoprolol had been doing a good job on my BP too.
I ended up being diagnosed with Mobitz type II and 2;1; second degree AV block. I had to wait almost 3 months before getting a Pacemaker while not taking Metoprolol
I had been one who did not feel my SVTs and so during that 3 month period, I was unaware of an increase in SVTs or any pounding in my heart.

1 Reaction@dalebout123 Yep, I agree, all different with different reactions, Thank you.
@jc76 I like the fact that metoprolol is confined to the heart. And don't want to take too much magnesium because that can lower blood pressure and my BPM is about 58 which don't want it this to be any lower. Next time I see the dr I will ask about magnesium taurate, if it is better to take. Thank you.
