@viv1953 I found this on-line: "Magnesium and Magnesium Glycinate are both forms of the essential mineral magnesium, but they differ in terms of their composition and benefits. Magnesium is a naturally occurring mineral that plays a crucial role in various bodily functions, including muscle and nerve function, energy production, and bone health. On the other hand, Magnesium Glycinate is a specific form of magnesium that is bound to the amino acid glycine. This unique combination enhances the absorption and bioavailability of magnesium in the body, making it a preferred choice for individuals with magnesium deficiency or those seeking to improve sleep quality and reduce anxiety. While both forms offer similar benefits, Magnesium Glycinate is often considered more gentle on the stomach and less likely to cause digestive discomfort compared to other forms of magnesium."

@daisy17 how do I tell if I have magnesium deficiency?

A common supplemental amount is about 100–200 mg of elemental magnesium per day (sometimes up to 300–400 mg depending on diet and medical advice), but the right dose depends on your age, kidney function, other medications and the specific osteoporosis supplements you are taking, so it’s best to confirm the amount with your doctor or pharmacist to avoid interactions or excessive intake.

@viv1953 You can ask your doctor for a blood test. I started taking 250-300mg/day of magnesium glycinate to help relax my muscles for better sleep and because I read it can help with osteoporosis by balancing your calcium and activating vitamin D. (The RDA for magnesium for women is from 310-320mg/day for most adult women.)

One positive side effect I noted was that previously I needed to take Miralax every day to avoid constipation. Once I started taking magnesium every day, that was no longer an issue for me.
