Post aquablation & an overactive bladder

Posted by Flipboy59 @bobpuli, Jul 28, 2025

I just had aquablation 4 weeks ago and now I have an overactive bladder. Does anyone had this procedure done and had the same outcome?

I am at 5 weeks and have urgency and leakage, not happy with this procedure. Wish I never had it.

@elglide I don't know your specific history including your age, or how long or how severe your bph symptoms were, but it's possible your pelvic floor is very weak which might be corrected by pelvic floor therapy though it's probably too soon for that. Also the longer we delay treatment the more damage we do to our bladder so treatment earlier rather than later is important. I never experience leakage but 5 weeks is pretty early still and everyone's journey is different. In addition to avoiding to much caffeine and carbonated drinks my pelvic floor therapist said to add citrus drinks to the list. There are meds to help with the urgency during recovery. What does your doctor say about your leakage?

@elglide in the 2-3 month post aquablation period urgency for me started getting worse. My dr. prescribed a bladder calming medication, hopefully just for a few months. He prescribed mirabegron 50mg. It's been life changing and I haven't noticed any side effects. I went from very significant urgency to feeling like normal and going 3-4 hours between trips to the restroom.

2 weeks post op from aquablation. strong bladder contractions after urination with strong penal and pelvic floor contractions. pretty bad discomfort for a few mins after urination. Also when I get urge to urinate it is quick and urgent. Just started on gemtesa 4 days ago. will see if that helps. so far no help.

@danderson0562 Took Gemtesa for 2 weeks no help. The urgency is expected but not the bad discomfort, I would get to the doctor over this, I had very little discomfort after surgery.
