Compression fracture in my back

I have 5 fractured vertebrae..all repaired except one..hoping it heals on itself..I need to start osteoporosis meds..any suggestions

Both Forteo and Tymlos speed fracture healing. In my opinion they are the best medications for osteoporosis.
They build integrated, dynamic bone.
I hope your fractures aren't painful.

I have not heard of either of those options, just the three I have had. Having had my perfect teeth removed after a year and a half battle between my dentist and hematology oncologist, I have now been without the ability to chew or really eat much of anything for roughly nine months. Finally got my dentures a week ago after two grueling dental surgeries. I am glad I did now, having just met someone who had breast cancer that metastasized all over her body and had a cavity filled and no one advised her of the very real concerns regarding necrotic jaw problems. She is now scheduled to have her entire jaw removed. Can't imagine, honestly. I would highly encourage anyone getting bone shots of any kind to check and double check the risks associated with the bone meds. I had Fosamax twenty four years ago for a long time and another similar prescription med but never heard anything about risks similar to what exists now with perhaps stronger and better meds ? Best wishes to everyone dealing with any bone issues. It isn't a lot of fun at any age or any stage of the game.

I have been on Forte for almost 2 years. It is my understanding that when 2 years is over, l immediately need to continue with another medication and discontinue the Teriperitide. I do not want to take anything. Bridgewalker

Hey "Bone Buddies" ~ I've had 4-5 (have lost track) spinal compression fractures... some mild... a few very painful. I am starting Forteo in next week or so. ANYONE NOTICE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GENERIC AND BRAND NAME? My friend did Forteo and improved her bone density 23%; then did reclast and improved 12% more. No side effects! (my personal prayer). I have ALSO read that a build up of homocysteine can cause or exacerbate osteoporosis. Excess Homocysteine can be caused from not being able to metabolize synthetic folic acid (which is in almost everything) and often stems from a gene issue called the MTHR gene. I am actively looking for supplements with already methylated folate which is called "methylfolate". You may want to look into this. Also... I unfortunately took Prilosec (BAD) for like 15 years... and then Pepcid (not great either). I have gotten off all acid reducers by taking ARMRA. Good luck to all of us!

@mysophiecat986, you really have about a month before you "need" to start another medication. I can pretty well guarantee that none of us want to take anything.
After a month your bones will start the process of returning to baseline which is thought to take a year or so. But look, you've saved yourself three years, by then, of bone loss. We have to say--well done. And if you at baseline decide to take Forteo again, your response the second time will be as robust as the first.
Unlike your sophie, I'm a scardycat. I'd rather fight osteoporosis than spend my days fighting pain, plus I don't want to slow down. Some people don't fracture. I pray that you are one of those.

I started on Alvogen (Bonsity, now) and didn't notice a difference when switching to Forteo.

My Endo, who put me on FORTEO says Alendronate is needed to lock in the gains from FORTEO. My understanding, and I'm not sure if this timeline is accurate, is that you need at least 2 years of Alendronate. As far as I've experienced, I've have not noticed any side effects from taking it.

No l have numerous fractures. The T9 is the one that could not be fixed with kyphoplasty. Causes me a lot of weakness in my core. Brace does not work. I have been an extremely active person in the past and this is very hard to deal with. I have had shots, an ablation and lots of PT. Nothing works.
