whole grains and stage 3
Latest information seems to indicate that whole grains are preferable. My nutritionist also agreed with that. I have stage three a CKD. I am eating whole grain breads and cereals. I would be interested in hearing if others are doing this.

I eat old fashion oats or shredded wheat. If you look hard enough it's out there. I read labels it's like a trip to the library for me going to the grocery store. Russell

6 ReactionsMy CKD comes from diabetes. Whole grains foods and increased fiber helps to mitigate the carbohydrates.

3 ReactionsShredded wheat is a great choice. Low in sugar. Doesn't have a lot of the harmful ingredients (sodium, potassium, etc.). Grape Nuts are great too. Very simple ingredients list. Oatmeal is another winner. Most of my days start with granola, followed by a bowl of berries. All of these are my GO-TO day starters.

2 ReactionsIf you are diabetic with CKD then having a high carbohydrate breakfast will spike your blood sugar. (Oatmeal, cereal, bread) Research has shown that eating dinner for breakfast ie vegetables, meat(if you eat it), eggs, salad, actually levels your blood sugar during the day and you actually feel satisfied and therefore will eat less during the day. I have followed this for two years since I had my kidney removed. I have lost10 pounds, the weight has stayed off and my A1c is now below 6. Blessings.

4 Reactions@dougr19 Ah! Now I gotta wonder about my usual choices of non-breakfast for breakfast! Leftovers on most days. My husband likes to laugh at me as he watches me eat.

2 ReactionsI have been baking bread for about 70 years.
Since I have stage 4CKD, my present bread is hundred percent stone ground organic whole wheat, natural winter wheat.
I add small amount of organic yeast, one egg, and about 2 tablespoons of olive oil and some honey to prove the yeast, about 1 teaspoon.
I put in about 2 tablespoons of “Life mix “organic seeds and nuts to give it some texture and bake a fresh quarter pound loaf loaf every other day or so.
This seems to provide the carbohydrate and protein to maintain a stable weight and CKD numbers.
More than that the bread is delicious, the baking is almost meditation by the time I’m done mixing and needing and I look forward to adding it to my dinners about every second day.
It’s difficult to tell on one sample if this is really good or bad for you, but I think it helps me maintain stable members and act as a buffer.
