Pari eRapid/eFlow first impressions
Wow. Salty!
I washed and sterilized all the parts last night per instructions, and just had my first session. It is indeed rapid! A big hit of salt (7% solution, 4ml vial) with every breath.
It's not breath-actuated, unlike the AeroEclipseXL I'm accustomed to, so salt mist blew everywhere when I exhaled. I soon manually de-activated it while exhaling, using the power button, and re-activated on inhale. I was near my computer and didn't want salt to get all over my electronics. (Next time I'll try it in my kitchen or living room.) Even with the starts and stops, the session was very fast, under 10 minutes. I will time my next one.
My young cat jumped on me while I was nebbing, disconnecting the cord from the cup. Nothing leaked and I reattached it easily. Clearly I need to find a new location to use this system. It's faster so I don't need to be seated or distract myself with online scrabble, as I do with my usual system.
The concentrated salt made me cough at first, but I got the hang of it by the end. It brought up a lot more mucus than usual! All clear, all good. My usual neb sessions have brought up hardly anything lately, so I found this refreshing.
Afterwards I rinsed the parts and soaked in soapy water per instructions. Question: If I boil after every use, do I have to soak in soapy water first? I skip that step with my AeroEclipse/Aerobika setup and just rinse and boil.
(For anyone curious, this is how I have been nebbing/cleaning for the past several months: https://youtu.be/gRUAIu1nO1w )

Does anyone use the eRapid daily or is it mostly used for travel?
Thank You.

My nebbing is going better with the suggestions you made, Thank You! I’m also taking very slow breaths which seems to help. I’m very happy to have found this group!

Have you tried the suggestions from @scoop?
“ Have you tried using an albuterol puffer 10 mins prior to nebbing 7% saline? The idea is that the albuterol opens things up so lungs are not as irritated by the hypertonic saline. Even with a puffer, I stop the eFlow multiple times during nebbing. I use these pauses as an opportunity to huff cough, thus clearing my lungs during the nebbing process and not only afterwards. Overall, these frequent stops punctuated with huffs help to speed up my clearance process.”. I’ve been doing these things as well as really slowing my breath down when I knew. And I’m now able to tolerate altho my throat is still sore and I’ve had a bit of bloody sputum.
@susannesemann yes I have but even though the 7% used with erapid makes me constantly cough. 3% is fine or 7% mixed with levalbuterol is tolerable but it means I use a double amount of levalbuterol ( puff before, wait and 7% with 0.63mcg of levalbuterol. Anyway the 7% combo aeroclipse/ aerobika seems to serve me the best and I do it with stops and huff coughs. Thank you for your concern and time you spend on me.
I am wondering if it would be worth it or of any benefit to me. I presently use the Pari Blue Cup and use 7% saline twice a day with Aerobika, no other medicine. I have a very good system to clean my equipment after each use and don't see I could save much time. I am in my late 80s and do not travel, so no benefit to me there. I don't mind buying since I am in the SKI Club (Spend Kids Inheritance) but don't want to get something I end up sticking in a drawer and not using. Also I cough a lot using 7% saline but is tolerated okay.

1 Reaction@scoop hi. I’m reading all the posts and am wondering how the eFlow is faster , if you are needing to take multiple breaks ? What am I missing . Also, how do you sterilize it on trips , if no access to boiling water ? Lastly , does it leave a salty area on your counter, etc ? Thanks!
@cholash Even with pauses, the eRapid is at least 3 times faster than my De Vilbiss Traveler or Pari Vios.
If no access to boiling water, it can be soaked in 70% alcohol or 3% hydrogen peroxide.
What do you mean by "leave a salty area on your counter" - after 7 years of nebbing saline, I haven't experienced this with any machine.

1 ReactionI have not experienced salt on adjacent areas with the AEROECLIPSE® II BAN Nebulizer . However , the person that started this thread has mentioned , “

Maybe I misunderstood what she was saying ?
