I was just diagnosed with choroid melanoma. Anyone else?
Today I was diagnosed with CM. I’m looking at surgery to implant 4 metal pins on the back of my right eye. Then I will be getting radiation therapy in San Francisco California. Is all else gone through these steps in your journey to kick this cancer in the BUTT? My name is Roxanne but prefer to be called Rox. Thanks everyone. I so appreciate any feedback you have

Hi 😁
Have to get MRI this week and EKG before the surgery. My journey has changed a bit. Surgery will be in Sacramento which is really close, happy too! Then a visit with a doctor at UCSF and my son, bless his heart, will be taking me to the appointment. Soon after, I hope I will be having proton radiation therapy. Having not been scared about the journey until the last few days and find myself feeling really tired so I head upstairs to kick back and watch tv BUT I never make to through a complete program 🤣😂😳
I do my very best to live in the moment and not in the past or future. And show love, respect and kindness to others. Don’t let judgement get in my heart.
Bless You and all the others traveling in this journey. Live with Strength and be a Warrior!
Enjoy your journey ALWAYS.

1 ReactionHugs ! Who isn’t at least a bit scared before surgery…though my cousins egged me on to be excited about getting rid of that nasty tumor, so I went into the OR glad that it would finally be gone…had no idea what would happen next…the wait for path results not easy, but I felt safe in my team’s hands..with family support all the way. Good news- it went well, no more cancer, at least for awhile, hopefully longer…wishing you all possible success- with your good spirit, you will do well.

How long will it take to get the results back? Well guess I will get it soon.
Thank you for your support and story!
My blessings to You and awesome you are in Remember the mission - they call it remission but I choose to say remember the mission!
Love coming your way and candles are lit as my prayers for you!
@mountain12: I see you are fairly new to Mayo Clinic Connect so wanted to roll out the red carpet welcome to you here and provide some background information on choroid melanoma that is available through Mayo: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/eye-melanoma/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20372376
It sounds as though you have a very healthy foundation and support from your son, as well as getting excellent care not far from your home so you're off to a favorable start! Proton radiation has been shown to have a high success rate, high success rate for destruction of the tumor and preventing it from spreading as well as sparing the eye from surgery and preserving vision in most cases. Be prepared for some side effects of radiation that can include temporary loss of eyelashes, dry eyes, redness in the area, and fatigue that can last a few weeks due to recovery from the radiation.
Can you let me know how the testing and appointment go?

MRI completely results that I only have the Cancer in my right eye!!
I am already receiving bills from doctors and tests. Overwhelming to say at least. I only have medicare and have been trying to get help from my state, California. I keep running into the ozone rewarding this. I call all the time and get a recording telling me to try later. I don't drive very far, only to the market which is 1.5 miles away. I'm so lost. Makes me fill like tossing in the rug cuz I can't afford my medical bills. I know I should keep living in the moment but today, yesterday and several days I feel so overwhelmed. I thought about calling Uber driver to get me to Sacramento, I live in rancho Cordova CA, but I can't even afford that. Sounds like I'm having a pity party and I guess I am. I really don't know where to turn to but write this to you All.

@mountain12: It's overwhelming to be dealing with all the logistics of a cancer diagnosis. You had mentioned earlier that you were treating at UCSF. If that is where you'll be continuing to undergo management for your CM, there are social workers on staff there who ought to be able to provide some assistance in regard to transportation and possible direction for additional financial support. You can inquire with your oncologist's office or see if this link helps: https://cancer.ucsf.edu/support-services.
Let me know if either of these leads help.
