Prescribed Eliquis 5mg 2 x a day
3 years ago was prescribed Eliquis 5mg 2 x per day. After legs ultrasound revealed had a DVT. Dr said, I have blood disorder, more prone to develop blood clots rather than bleeding, I was told by the Dr and Eliquis prescription is for life. No specific blood test for this medical condition. Is anyone in the same situation? I was never told exactly what kind of blood disorder I have in the first place? I'll be 78 years old this June 8. My a1c 6.9, Ave BC 130, do stretching exercises and walk 1.5 miles 5 to 6 times a week before breakfast. Try to eat healthy diet, watch my sugar intake. Please share your thoughts, comments or related experiences. Thank you.

I have been on Eliquis 5 mg once daily for the last 7 months after having a pulmonary embolism. After telling the ER doctor that both my brothers are positive for Factor V Leiden they tested me and found that I am also positive. ( This is a genetic blood clotting disorder & my insurance wouldn’t pay for me to be tested until I actually had a clot!). I will be on Eliquis for life now.
@steveutnv
where is generic manufactured and by whom? What I see is product ship from Mauritius (India, etc.) - - has your generic been Ok ? how long is ship process?
"from Canada" - does this mean a "Canadian" drug or could it be from India, or Turkey, etc. and if so has this been a concern?

1 Reaction@mws I asked the pharmacist where the drugs were manufactured and he assured me they were manufactured in Canada. I just looked at mine and, yes, it is manufactured in Ontario. They charge me $15 for three day shipping from Ontario to Utah via USPS.
I found it as "Over the border meds" but it is filled by Corydon Village Pharmacy in Winnipeg (not Ontario as I posted earlier). They have a toll-free number 833-299-7753.
@mws I buy my Eliquis from Canada.
Here’s the # 1866-779-7587
They are very helpful.

I have been on blood thinners for the last 20 months following a DVT and bilateral pulmonary embolisms. I too have Factor V Leiden homozygote. In my case I am on Rivaroxaban 20 mg (generic of Xeralto).
Discussing with the dr to reduce dose to 10mg. Trying to weigh the risk of thrombosis vs bleeding.
It seems ultimately it will be my decision which risk to live with. There is some research on the subject but not extensive as far as I can find.
@bbmj06 MGUS stable for 20 years. Doc blaming MGUS for heart block, stroke, and now DVT and PE. Eliquis for life. I am reading that MGUS IGG/Kappa may react this way to COVID vax. I was in a Moderna study through Moffitt during the pandemic and am trying to get Moderna’s attention. Hence this post.

1 ReactionHave you been tested for the Fac5leiden clotting gene? After an extensive blood clot and removable, my hematologist dd the blood test for it, and I was positive, and he told me that I needed to take it the rest of my life.
