Prescribed Eliquis 5mg 2 x a day
3 years ago was prescribed Eliquis 5mg 2 x per day. After legs ultrasound revealed had a DVT. Dr said, I have blood disorder, more prone to develop blood clots rather than bleeding, I was told by the Dr and Eliquis prescription is for life. No specific blood test for this medical condition. Is anyone in the same situation? I was never told exactly what kind of blood disorder I have in the first place? I'll be 78 years old this June 8. My a1c 6.9, Ave BC 130, do stretching exercises and walk 1.5 miles 5 to 6 times a week before breakfast. Try to eat healthy diet, watch my sugar intake. Please share your thoughts, comments or related experiences. Thank you.

Hi @foxmate57 Eliquis is a medication given to help prevent you from developing another blood clot. There are several blood conditions which can leave a person more prone to clotting so it’s difficult to speculate on your diagnosis. It sounds like other than the blood disorder that you’re in good health and take care of yourself. But I think you’d like to know what your diagnosis is, right?
Have you been seen by a hematologist or was this handled through your primary care physician?
When you had blood work done, was your platelet level elevated? What type of tests did you have to confirm that had a blood disorder?
Thank you @loribmt,
I'll have an appointment with my PCP 6/1, and I'll discuss with him the points you brought up. Last May 7th my platelet was 153 (normal range 135 - 317). I have never been seen by a Hematologist. Per my PCP, he discussed my "blood disorder" with the hematologist.
Thanks again
Ask your PCP for a referral to the hematologist he discussed your blood disorder with. A hematologist would order more extensive blood work than a PCP and you would benefit from a direct conversation with the hematologist vs everything being filtered through your PCP.

3 ReactionsI’ve been taking same dose for about 3-4 yrs for afib as prescribed by my cardiologist. No apparent reactions that are not due to mult myeloma treatment. My platelets vary form 120 to around 90. Oncologist/hemotoligist worries about treatment when below 100, but cardiologist says not to worry unless it approaches 50. Due to hip issues increasing at age 85 I exercise less than you but when necessary I can walk 7-8 k steps.
