Are vitamins, supplements or herbs issue with CKD?
I read oil based supplements like vitamin A and E can be stored in the body. I stopped taking fish oil capsules as well until I see my nephrologist in two weeks. What's been your experience with Vitamin supplements and or herbs? Thank you, Donna

@gangcarotid1 I understand the milk thing being raised on fresh farm. I'm not a milk drinker per day but if I can get close to 500mg in 8 ozs. An easy one. Lot fat cottage cheese I like. Mozzarella too. That is disappointing to have to watch fruits and veggies, geez ... Would you know of a reliable source to get those ingredients on f & v on the internet? I agree I limit my processed sugar. I have hypoglycemia, when it's low I start my meal with watermelon or a bite of apple to raise it then continue to a lean protein and salad and veggie meal.

1 Reaction@gangcarotid1 this is an amazing list. I will definitely look this up. It's just what I was looking for, everything in one place. Thank you so much! My nephrologist told me to eat a Mediterranean diet . So this too will benefit. Thumbs Up

1 ReactionDiet does make a difference…give up some things, limit others very carefully. …awareness is how to start …there is a lot of info out there about what’s in the foods we eat…hydration is key… and moving/exercising on whatever level fits ….it’s great when we can make a difference in our own health on a daily basis—THE best medicine there is !

2 Reactions@gangcarotid1 so good to hear, I too read labels. For the past 5 months my main focus is on fruits, love the mini watermelons, I cut it all up, store in Tupperware so it's easy to grab for lunch and dinner along with a green salad, my fav now is chopped romaine mixed with arugula, cucumbers, green onions, red pepper olive oil and rice vinegar topped with sunflower seeds. Yum! Happy eating. My taste buds have adjusted over time, I look forward to fresh foods more. In Dec my egfr was 44 creatine 1.25 high. After hydrating and eating fresh egfr 60 creatine 1.02. Very happy about this. This is my new healthy lifestyle. It's good! Actually it's great!

3 Reactions@nycmusic I totally agree with you. Being aware, making those right choices. I allow myself a small slice of really good bread, or half an English muffin and little butter now and then but not everyday. I keep it in my freezer. It is great making our own difference. It's empowering. Hydrating and exercise. It's work at first but then it's my life. A good one!

2 ReactionsThe diet is a combo of avoiding certain foods/drinks, limiting amounts of many, enjoying more veggies/ fruits, hydrating bigtime—and doing whatever exercise we possibly can. It really is more possible than it may seem..the once in awhile tiny treat helps our psyche from feeling like deprivation jail…and improving #s are the real payoff for health…eat strong, friends !
