Red light therapy for long covid?

Posted by jsg12206 @jsg12206, Mar 8, 2024

Has anyone tried red light therapy to treat long covid brain fog and lethargy? There appeaars to be a small but growing amount of peer-reviewed research showing promising benefits.

Just wanted to share some red light therapy resources that were shared with me by someone from a different long Covid group. I found the AI tool on Light Therapy Insiders very helpful for determining the dosage required for my issues using my specific red light device. (It can get a little complicated, particularly if you still have some brain fog)

I get daily doses of long wave/infrared light from morning daylight (within 3 hours of sunrise) and late afternoon light (within 3 hours of sunset). I learned about it from Huberman Lab episodes. I go outside in the path of where the sun is shining for a minimum of 20 minutes am and 40 minutes pm. If it's cloudy, I go for longer.

I was astounded at how much it has helped ease extreme fatigue!! I have to get sun every day, if I want to be able to stand up and move at all.

@efrosini I listened to the Huberman Lab podcasts on light. Thank you so much for mentioning them. So enlightening! Pun intended.

I wanted to report that after trying red light therapy for about 10 weeks, I feel that I am starting to get more energy and better sleep. Thanks to a comment above in this thread that mentioned the Huberman Labs podcast, I listened to the episode on light therapy (released 12/1/25 "Using Red Light...") and learned a lot. I go to a small business that specializes in just red light, with a full body medical grade red light bed. I started for a few weeks at 3x a week, now I go twice a week. The cost is about $30 a treatment. I also go outside every morning to get light on my skin, as recommended by Huberman to help with circadian rhythms and therefore sleep on 6/11/26 podcast "Essentials: Sleep Toolkit ...."
