Left hip pain

Posted by gussie @gussie, 1 day ago

After 3 months of hip pain the MRI I had last week showed I have a tendon tear. I'm fine when sitting but getting up from that position is when it really hurts and walking. Anyone have anything like this? Oh by the way I'm an 84 year old woman an up until this happened I walked a couple of miles a day.

gussie @gussie - that sounds miserable. What did the doc say the treatment plan is?
and, is it on the inside or outside part of your hip? I have pain on the inside, at the groin area where they went in through the femoral artery a couple years ago for a procedure but figured it was just scar tissue. same thing, pain with specific movement and definitely walking changes. (and Hooray for you and your walking- that's fantastic! I hope you can get back to it)

Look/see type gl medius or just medius in window under discussions search for this blog, to see many past comments. If the MRI indicates a partial tear, then ask orthopedic surgeon how to best manage everyday life to avoid a full thickness gl medius tear w/ fatty infiltration and atrophy. Once one reaches this diagnosis, game over. I'm at this point, age 82 and decided against a gl transfer. Do a Google search for medius tears, gl medius transfers and you will see much that will inform. It's heat in the morning and ice at night, but this is such a bother. Read up on Trendelenburg gait--the result of a gl tear. Be kind to yourself, this change/pain/balance in life style is difficult at best. Ask pcp for handicapped sign to hang from the rearview mirror. And if you forget to hang this and get a ticket for parking in a handicapped parking space, change out to handicapped plates for your vehicle.

I'm assuming that the first thing would be PT. My appointment is this week for the ortho PA. I was ahead of you to ask for a placard but my guess is if I get one at all it will be a temp. This ortho practice is very tough on giving them out.

@uisge I miss my walking so much. With my husband still working full time operating a commercial real estate office it gets me out of the house and out of my head. I can't volunteer in a school or hospital because I have something called CVID. Common Variable Immuno Depression. I don't make anti-bodies against bacteria or viruses so I have to give myself infusions of plasma to get other peoples antibodies. ( Boy in the Bubble light). Since I pick up illness so easy it's hard to be in a crowd or help in a classroom. We live in a beautiful county in Northern California and have the kind of weather where you can get outside almost the whole year.

@gussie No, PT won't be any good for a tear. The only thing would be surgery. I had tears on both sides. I had to have 2 surgeries, 3 months apart. PT after the surgeries.

@gussie - I understand about the walking... keeps the entire body lubricated. and wow- I've never heard of that CVID, and it sounds awful! Sure would cut down many social activities...

ams is right about the P.T. for a tear-it's no good. been there, done that, burned the T-shirt. that's why I asked about your doctor's plan of action. While some small tears can heal themselves over time, where yours is is a major-use area and P.T. might not be helpful

I hear ya. But I just bet that PT will be the first thing mentioned. Even though I have a condition I have been lucky in my 84 years that I haven't been as ill as other people with this condition. I had my immunologist send a letter to my local Urgent Care explaining that I may not show regular symptoms as a "normal person" with the same condition but I have to be treated more aggressive even though we very seldom run fevers for instance because a fever means your body is fighting, ours doesn't fight. I do socialize but try to stay away from big crowds.
