Coping Skills

Posted by dreichelderfer @dreichelderfer, 2 days ago

What coping skills are helpful when caring for my wife who has fibromyalgia? She has had chronic pain issues for 10 years. She seems better one day then the next much worse. She is very fatigued most days. It’s just a grind getting through the bad days as there seem to be more of those than good ones.

@dreichelderfer Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! The best way you can help your wife is to educate yourself so that you can really understand what is going on with her. I don’t know a great deal about fibromyalgia but there is a whole support group for fibromyalgia patients here: You can ask the folks in that group how best to educate yourself and how to manage her pain.

It may be a tough road for both of you, but together, nothing is impossible!

dreichelderfer,

Exercise can help. But like Becky said it might be helpful to learn all you can about it.

Thanks! Did you mean exercise for me or for her? Maybe both? We do take a walk with our dogs most days when the weather is good.

@becsbuddy Thanks! I’ll post the question to the fibro group to get their insights.

The fact that you reached out to the group shows how much you love your wife: Being present for her as you are is the best medicine for her. I respect and appreciate your caregiving efforts.
