Does anyone have a solution to help manage Reclast side effects?

I did clinical research on this drug years ago. For cancer patients we saw osteonecrosis of the jaw in patients with poor dental health. It was recommended not to use for those patients.
As the drug was approved for osteoporosis the dose and frequency was reduced.
I am 78 and my latest Dexa scan showed osteopenia in my femur. I was concerned as I live alone. After considerable research I decided to move forward. I have no other diseases, hydrated like crazy, requested a longer infusion of 30 minutes. I have no significant side effects after 5 days. I am staying at home, careful with food, continuing with drinking lots of water.
The research shows 3-10% of patients have flu symptoms. I didn’t have that.
Also, in cancer patients, they had bone pain initially as the drug does work within the bones to decrease bone loss. I had no bone pain at all.
I feel the need to rest, which I do. But I have 2 dogs to care for. Research shows a 50% decrease in bone fractures over 3 years. That was why I decided on Reclast. So far so good.
However any unusual side effects should be reported to the prescribing Doctor. I am a licensed pharmacist and did report the necrosis of the jaw to the FDA. I did that for about 30 patients, but over 100,000 were receiving the drug at high doses.

@terrietfp I am so sorry , I feel the same way. REClast has ruined my life. I was just telling someone on this site. I want to start a class action suit against REClast. Thy shouldn’t get away with ruining peoples lives. and making money. While we suffer with pain. I hope I can get enough people to go along with me. I don’t care even if we get money. I just wanna stop them using this drug. I did contact FDA and have paperwork to fill out. I will start there. @raelenewilma There are already been numerous lawsuits on Reclast, "primarily due to allegations of serious side effects, including atypical femur fractures and kidney damage. Patients have claimed that the drug's risks were not adequately communicated, leading to significant injuries and medical expenses."

@daisy17 hello, thank you for the information, but I am still going to try and get a class action lawsuit. I am so upset that I am always in pain or just not feeling well. It has interrupted my life, Do you think I will get anywhere?

@raelenewilma There have already been class action lawsuits against the company that makes Reclast. Do some research and see what the results were. You might find some lawyers that have handled cases in the past.

@raelenewilma Ty for the class law suit information. I also am interested in suing. I had a ReClast infusion September 12, 2025 and within a day, I had severe pain in my hip and thigh. I could not walk without a walker and even then it was terribly painful. I was hospitalized and had MRIs, X-rays, etc. with no results as to the cause of my pain. I claimed ReClast was the cause of my pain but no doctor seemed to listen. My doctor recommended back surgery but thankfully I did not go that route. As of a week ago, April 29, 2026 the pain left. It just went away. I think the poison has left my body. I thought I’d never walk again. I can walk awkwardly now but my balance and gait are off. I’m going to PT and that’s helping. That “medication” should not be on the market.

@raelenewilma - I am sorry that you are going through this! It does help me to know that I am not the only one. I never take any antibiotics or medications that mention side effects of joint pain, tendon issues, or muscle pain. I know I will get that side effect. I did not see any paperwork on my infusion medication. No manufacturer, lot numbers, etc.

I wish I had read these boards before I got my infusion. Let me know if you start a class action.

@lwidstrand reading your statement! I too have had the Reclast infusion 23 months ago! Had I known of All the potential side effects from this medication I never would have received it! I retired just a few months after the infusion and it’s been a battle every single day since. I’m a 69 year old male that has been in pretty good shape and health for my age. Received the Reclast and both shoulders, left foot, nausea at times, inflammation in my eyes, difficulty breathing at times, electrical shocks in my back and limbs ever since and often the feeling of complete exhaustion after doing just about anything. Some days are better than others but boy does this Suck. I continue to hope that my body will fight this demon and I will come out of this and be “ normal” again. Been to numerous doctors and no one has an answer as to why I am experiencing these symptoms along the lines of inflammation throughout my body and/or treatment. I’ve had to stop their testing because I feel more like a Ginny pig just getting tossed around. I do go by weekly to physical therapy. As for legal ramifications…..no matter how much one could receive, I’m thinking the money is not going to take these symptoms away. Should you find a legal avenue I’d be interested? @terrietfp I’m sorry to report that after about 10 days, my pain has returned although somewhat diminished. It’s tolerable. I too, am looking forward to walking my dog. Unfortunately, I’m not walking my dog yet.
