Pancreatic cancer relapse
Hello. I was told by oncologist that he believes the pancreatic cancer has come back after 18 months cancer free. Still waiting on biopsies of lymph nodes near what was described as possible mass near original
Cancer site. Has anyone experienced a pancreatic cancer relapse and survived long term?

@johnny1955, palliative care can be a part of your cancer care team at any stage. Another term for palliative care is called symptom management or comfort care. Essentially, it is the team who are experts in managing symptoms and pain. I would inquire about the availability of palliative care services at your cancer center. They are also a great support to family members.

Cancer is back. Recent CT and CA19-9 confirm pancreatic cancer spread to lungs. Most of the lung nodules are too small to biopsy, but after the Tumor Panel reviews the case next week, they may be able to sample one for the diagnosis we all know is true. After that, likely 12 more rounds of Folfirinox chemo. Summer is already looking busy.

8 Reactions@ivy1951 I know this is disappointing. Had you been on any maintenance drugs?
How long have you been NED?

2 Reactions@ivy1951 ... My husbands oncologist (Vanderbilt) just told us about a new pill for recurring situations. I'm not sure what stage you have to be at, but it would be worth asking about it.

My husband had distal pancreatectomy a year ago, then the final 4 of 12 chemo treatments. CT scans and CA19 showed no cancer. Then in February his CT showed some 'spots' on a lung. CA19 had gone up a little. Had to wait for spots to get bigger and here we are. He had 6 months without signs of cancer. Had no maintenance drugs. So here we are again.

6 ReactionsMy husband has a local recurrence of pancreatic cancer 3 years post Whipple surgery in 2022. He is having digestive issues, cramps, with low appetite and weight loss after chemo of Gemcitabane and Abraxane which finished in January, 2026 and after 5 consecutive days of MRI guided high dose radiation which finished on April 3. While he is thankfully no longer in pain, the digestive issues continue despite prescribed medications. Any one else has a similar issue and if so how have you been treating it? Thanks

1 Reaction@joyful23 my husband was diagnosed on Jan 2 and started chemo on Folfirinox, he did not tolerate it well and ended up hospitalized and required a bowel obstruction surgery. After recovering from the surgery, and losing 22 pounds ,he has started on the Gemcitabane and Abraxane. Palliative Care initially tried Remeron for appetite and we noticed a slight increase in appetite. Palliative Care then put him on Dexamethasone 4 mg for 10 days at a time and he has started to eat more and is actually gaining weight. The steroid has also increased his energy. He was told they would not keep him on it indefinitely as it falsely increases his WBC but his oncologist has decided he can stay on it for a 3rd round. It might be worth a try. He is supposed to have the Whipple after he finishes his adjuant chemo and I was hoping he would gain weight back before his surgery due to the issues with eating post surgery.
