My husband has a local recurrence of pancreatic cancer 3 years post Whipple surgery in 2022. He is having digestive issues, cramps, with low appetite and weight loss after chemo of Gemcitabane and Abraxane which finished in January, 2026 and after 5 consecutive days of MRI guided high dose radiation which finished on April 3. While he is thankfully no longer in pain, the digestive issues continue despite prescribed medications. Any one else has a similar issue and if so how have you been treating it? Thanks

@joyful23 my husband was diagnosed on Jan 2 and started chemo on Folfirinox, he did not tolerate it well and ended up hospitalized and required a bowel obstruction surgery. After recovering from the surgery, and losing 22 pounds ,he has started on the Gemcitabane and Abraxane. Palliative Care initially tried Remeron for appetite and we noticed a slight increase in appetite. Palliative Care then put him on Dexamethasone 4 mg for 10 days at a time and he has started to eat more and is actually gaining weight. The steroid has also increased his energy. He was told they would not keep him on it indefinitely as it falsely increases his WBC but his oncologist has decided he can stay on it for a 3rd round. It might be worth a try. He is supposed to have the Whipple after he finishes his adjuant chemo and I was hoping he would gain weight back before his surgery due to the issues with eating post surgery.
