Oral Lichen Planus

Posted by jhollifield @jhollifield, Jan 14 4:26pm

Hello
I have had OLP for many years. It always presented on the side of my tongue or inside my cheeks. In 2016 I got Clear Choice dental implants. I still get it on in my cheeks sometimes but now I get flare ups around my implants. Has anyone else had this and, if so, do you know if it is due to the material of the implant?

@gypsyblue I live in Stl and went to an OM dr At St. Louis University. He is an oral pathologist. Dr Vargo. . He did biopsy but didn’t treat for very long. Said that was all he could try. Just a pathologist. Who is the Washington U dr. Anakat? He is the only Dr I have heard of at Wash u. Love to know. I went to Mayo in February. Steroid swish and spit given for bad times. In there for 15 min. Quite an expense but felt I needed to check the box. I keep looking for the one who has treated this condition and cares. It has been difficult for sure. Let me know who you saw. Thank you.

@kjoeme1978 Nice to meet you neighbor! Thank you for the SLU info. I was referred to Dr. Caroline Mann at WU. Her office is located at the BJC West County location off Olive and Mason. She was recommended by my dental hygienist. Pleasant physician, unfortunately nothing to offer my situation. I did feel very rushed through the visit. I wish I had known about the red light oral device when I went. I would have asked about it. Did you see Dr Anakat as well? I will look into that too. Good luck! There must be something in today’s technology to help with this issue.

@sassy1 What red light therapy are you using? I'm trying to find one that will help but there are so many out there now. Thanks for any advice!

@jeraberkana Red Light Therapy Belt for Body, 37'' Cordless Red Infrared Light Wrap for Neck Chin Knee Ankle Hand Pain Relief, 660nm & 850nm with Pulse & Heating Modes
Brand: think it was Viconor. Use them daily- work for a few 30 in session before recharging. love them! One for upstairs / downstairs each. Sometimes I use them on different body parts at the same time. I have also invested in the stronger commercial therapy, -about 9- 12 visits in a package deal 3 days a week. Podiatrists, Orthopedic specialists, Chiropractors in some cases, all offer a stronger version that penetrates more deeply, and I use these OTC for maintenance. they suggest their professional treatments a-gets expensive.. For less than $40 I find these very useful. Good luck. I found mine on Amazon. My daughter bought me one on a stand and I love that too. You will see them on Amazon. Brand was Viconor Red Light Therapy for Face and Body, Red Infrared Light Therapy Lamp with Stand Led 660nm Red Light-Therapy& 850nm Infrared Light Device for Body
Good luck! be well!

I am interested in hearing about the Covid connection. Did you have Covid or was it from the vaccines? My OLP started in 2021 and I have never been diagnosed with Covid. My ENT did a biopsy and diagnosed the OLP but did not offer any treatment plan. My Skin Cancer Nurse Practitioner was the only one that cared. She put me on Plaquinil and Clobetasol. It worked for several months then I got reactions to the Plaquinil. The nurse Practitioner had me start seeing a doctor in the office. We tried massive amount of steroids but it only helped in the beginning. Then we tried Dupiexent and it worked for awhile then stopped. Now I am on Sotyktu. The doctor said that they have found in the last 6 months that it helps with OLP. I am also using Tacrolimus ointment. That works better that the Clobetasol. It is so frustrating but I am very grateful for Skin Cancer group. They take this very serious and are always available. There is one other patient with OLP that started the Sotyktu the same week I did. It does seem stress makes things much worse.

@gypsyblue yes I know where she is. I asked my Concierge physician Dr Kamat and he said she would be someone to look into. I have seen where she has published a study with biologics. I will see Anakat at Big Barnes it takes a while to get in need a referral and I believe he specializes in oral diseases. We will see. Unfortunately not much to do. I have so much white lace in my mouth. Mayo was quick too. Which more physicians know how to treat. Kamat has never had a patient with this. It has been driven by me. Hope this helps.

@kjoeme1978 So, you have this OLP on your tongue or on your body? Mine are on my tongue and I would never have even thought to have my Dermatologist look at it. I will ask the next time I’m there. Thank you!
