Small indeterminate kidney lesion - Very Nervous

Posted by am1974 @am1974, Nov 14, 2023

Hello All: I am new here. Just had Abdominal CT Sscan due to right side cramp/discomfort and it found a 11mm indeterminate lesion on right kidney. I am in the process of getting an MRI as recommended by the reading radiologist. I am very nervous and just wanted to know your thoughts or any helpful guidance or insight. Thank you so much in advance.

@susanris I went to my primary yesterday. Of course they cancelled my appointment when I got there. They said there wasn’t much of a point in discussing anything till I get the mri done. I told them why couldn’t they have called me and told me this. Since having me come here get situated come in the room and basically say have a good day see you in may. 🤦‍♀️

@abbigail89 sounds like the opposite of my doctor. Not very good. Have you considered changing doctors?

You need to relay this incident to your Dr. when you see them. Most often, I've found they don't know about these kind of incidents. When it happened a 2nd time, I asked him if he thought it would be fair for me to send a bill for the gas $ (we live an hour out of town) & my time. That was several years ago, and it hasnt happened since. I have been continually amazed at how inept many physicians' receptionists are.

@gangcarotid1 that was something I did think about mentioning it to him. But when I’ve physically saw him and he’s been my primary for years. He doesn’t even know my name. Let along things he has ordered. He argued with me one time saying he didn’t order a test to be done once a year. Which I told him I save everything when it comes to my heath and I pulled up where he had said to get
It done once a year and he’ll make it on my birthday so it would be remembered to get done.

I’m still waiting for testing to be done. Which I’ve called everyday to see if they have anything sooner for an mri to be done. Since I was scheduled so far out. Every time I’ve called they have been so rude about it. I feel like many of these people that I have talked to throughout the last few weeks. They need to implement some kind of training. Because yes it’s not concerning for them but to us calling to schedule it could be something that’s the scariest thing happening. There has been zero empathy or kindliness when calling into any of these places. It’s kind of sad it’s like people lost there ability to be kind and have empathy towards others.

Oh my gosh! That sounds like a terrible nightmare! Do you have any options to extract yourself from that practice completely and go to another one?

@abbigail89 you deserve the best advocacy the doctors can provide to match yours. Delay is not a therapeutic plan!

@susanris surprisingly I haven’t seen any drs since I had my original ct scan in April. When I ask questions I’m told to just wait till my appointment. I emailed my one dr about a call I missed from them. They told me it’s not there concern my aorta is. But where my aorta is torn at directly affects my left kidney. So I figured it would have went hand and hand with what’s going on. But they are blowing me off as well. Which is shocking since my vascular surgeon is at the university of Michigan. Seems like finding a good doctor is really hard. Or finding one that cares more about the patient than the money.

@gangcarotid1 yes I found a new dr supposedly according to the reviews he’s an amazing doctor and cares more about patients health and well being. Just have to wait for the office to open Monday morning. Hopefully the reviews are true.

@abbigail89 You need a physician team! Are you within driving distance of Mayo? They are interdisciplinary team oriented and refer to each other for patient benefit.
Did you get your aorta tear repaired? I hope so!
Do you have a ppo insurance that allows you to self refer or do you have to go through your primary for their referral.? If a PPO, go to Healthgrades.com and find a doctor that specializes in kidneys, etc. then, look at their ratings a patient reviews. That will help you find a doctor. If you have to go through your PCP ( primary) be the squeaky wheel that gets greased!
