Chest pain correlating with Focal Seizures

Posted by lzbthtyler @lzbthtyler, 6 days ago

Hello,
I have temporal lobe aware seizures. I take 100 mg of Brivact twice a day and 250 mg of Xcopri once a day. I have 2 questions.
1. Has anyone experienced chest pain before or after a temporal lobe aware seizure?
2. Has anyone experienced elevated Lipase levels taking Xcopri?

Hi Elizabeth!
I've experienced chest pain after a few strong focal seizures, but always ones with impaired consciousness — what used to be called complex partial seizures. I've never had this during auras or focal seizures with preserved consciousness, as they're called nowadays.
I've experienced abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and a swollen abdomen with some other AEDs — Vimpat and Keppra — which can be related to elevated lipase, though it wasn't measured at the time. As for Xcopri, I can't speak to that, as I've never taken it.
Have you already mentioned this to your doctor? I think it'd be important to do so.
Take care!
Chris

Hi,

I don’t feel any chest pain. But then this may not be something which I had previously kept a look out for. But I must admit I do experience out of breath easier (couldn’t remember since when) which I attributed to increasing weight.

We may have other underlying health issues which can have nothing at all to do with epilepsy. That’s the thing about growing old and health.

Cheers,
Louis

Hi Elizabeth!
Last August, I experienced PNES — Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures — for the first time. The episodes felt somewhat similar to my auras, but lasted much longer. I remember experiencing rapid breathing, an accelerated heart rate, and a feeling of pressure in my chest during the episodes, which left the area with a lingering discomfort afterward.
I'm wondering whether the focal seizures you've been experiencing could possibly be PNES episodes. Just a thought worth considering as people with epilepsy can also experience PNES.
Have you had a chance to bring this up with your doctor?
I'm also sharing a discussion from our group that you might find helpful:
