Bronchiectasis & Lumbar Puncture

Posted by charisscurry @charisscurry, 11 hours ago

My Mom has Bronchiectasis and most recently have been experiencing severe neuropathy. Her Neurologist wants to do a lumbar puncture (spinal tap), but if she lies flat she starts coughing immediately. I have read that a lumbar puncture can be done sitting up. Does anyone know a place in Jacksonville, FL who does lumbar punctures up right?

@charisscurry Please ask the doc who ordered the test to find out for you. They will need to be involved anyway because the order will need to be written specifically for an upright test.
Alternatively, you could ask for them to order a cough suppressant for before, during, and 48 hours after the test. It might also be good for her to do extra airway clearance for a few days beforehand to make sure her lungs are as clear as possible.
