Meningioma tumor

Hi, I had a Meningioma tumor removed in 2013 but in December I was told it was back, my Dr said we would check in a years time, I just was wondering if anyone knew how fast it grows

I have one and am getting it removed soon. My doctor said they normally grow a millimeter a year. However, mine is the size of a golf ball, so I must have had it for about 40 years. He took me off hrt because that will increase the growth faster. Mine is not showing any symptoms, it was found after a fall where I hit my head while walking my dog. Good luck.

@lovestocook: One of the questions asked by my neuro doctor was if I had ever had HRT. When I answered, "yes," I asked him why he had asked. He said that some studies are suggesting there might be a correlation between taking estrogen and developing meningiomas. I had one removed (craniotomy) and still have 2 left. (6mm and 8mm) I'm on active surveillance for those remaining two and just hope they remain stable.

@mkoch I had only been on the patch for a year, but given my issue the possible side effects out weigh the benefits in my case, and in my opinion. Thanks for the reply. Your information helps me be more educated about it.

@lovestocook: Good luck with your forthcoming surgery. I've had a hysterectomy and two mastectomies and the craniotomy was easier. (Of course, that's just my experience but just trying to say don't be overly fearful about the craniotomy.)

Nancymitch: My neuro doc told me a typical growth rate is about 1 to 2 millimeters a year. (2 millimeters would be about 1/16th of an inch.) I agree with Randy Shields not to wait a year because if the meningioma is more aggressive the growth rate could be more than 1 to 2 millimeters and why take the chance of allowing it to grow to the point where it may impact surrounding structures. If your 6 month recheck indicates it is slow growing I would ask your doctor if you can relax and assume it is not an aggressive tumor.

@mkoch well my update, it is not growing in my brain and still cancer free and just have some whoops to jump through, but all in all i am doing good today and in good spirits, wish i could bottle the way i feel most the time and sell it or give it to the ones needing a good outlook along with good feelings despite being in pain most the time but that is part of growing old. You occasionally do something you pay for later. then have to have a few added days to recoup. got off track but that is ok. for now smile and have a blessed day.
