Small indeterminate kidney lesion - Very Nervous
Hello All: I am new here. Just had Abdominal CT Sscan due to right side cramp/discomfort and it found a 11mm indeterminate lesion on right kidney. I am in the process of getting an MRI as recommended by the reading radiologist. I am very nervous and just wanted to know your thoughts or any helpful guidance or insight. Thank you so much in advance.

So I had a ct scan done this is what had been on the report. Indeterminate 3.3 cm right renal mass. left renal parenchymal loss. I’m just nervous about what any of this may mean. Also, what are the next step to be done. Has anyone had anything like this. If so what was done what were the steps you had to take.

Hoping you're seeing a nephrologist!
Has your Dr discussed these finds w you?
These finds mean they don't know if the 3.3 mass is cancer or not. The parenchymal loss on the other side means your kidney isnt filtering as well as it used to.
It easy to get scared. Been there, done that. Unless you're at a center of Excellence like Mayo, Stanford, Cleveland, Sloan Kettering, I personally would get a second opinion.
Sending hugs and bestest of wishes! This is coming from someone who was told, at Mayo, my left kidney would likely be removed, then the weekend before we flew out, the surgeon called to tell me he believed he had a 95% chance of saving my kidney and thats exactly what he did! Still have 90% of that kidney and function is great after 1-1/2 years.

3 Reactions@abbigail89 Be your own best advocate and you may need more tests or doctors. I assume you are seeing a urologist or hopefully a nephrologist. Keep advocating for yourself and testing until you are sure you and the doctor have an answer,,not just an opinion! Good luck getting to the bottom of this!

2 Reactions@susanris this was found when I went to the er for flank pain and abdominal pain. In January I had a scan done. Which it had showed it being 1cm. My primary care told me it was nothing to be concerned about and left it alone. So when I went to the er I was surprised when it grew from 1 cm to 3.3cm. I just don’t know if I should stay with primary or reach out to other drs. Thank you for your advice by the way.

1 Reaction@gangcarotid1 I’m not following anyone at this time. Back in January I was told to not worry about it at all by my primary even though the ct report said to follow the mass protocol. Because it was concerning back in January that’s when it was 1cm as of last week it is now 3.3 cm. My primary called and said that’s concerning and they want to follow with an mri. I told the drs office I don’t want to see who I saw back in January. Since they had said what they did. Your situation would have done gave me a heart attack I’m so glad that everything is good for you now. Back story of my left kidney I’m thinking my kidney is being affected like that because my aorta is torn. Which where it is torn at is leading into the branch of arteries of the left kidney. Which is another scary thing.
@abbigail89 not only am I a patient but also a nurse. My opinion is that all lesions should be thoroughly investigated and that a good primary care physician when asked will refer you to a kidney doctor for ultrasounds and other testing.
The last thing a good doctor wants to say is “i’m sorry”.
My son’s tumor was found similarly; peace of mind is worth waiting out a growing unknown mass! Get a good nephrologist or urologist in on your case as that is their specialty. Good luck and be your own best advocate!
My son took this advise and he is doing well and being followed closely by primary, nephrologist, urology and oncologist- a good team for him!

1 Reaction@susanris my primary care office called me 4 times yesterday asking if I’m okay. Did I need anything how am I feeling. They never called from my blood work over a month ago that they had ordered. These calls were coming from the main dr that owned the clinic. My actual primary has yet to give me a call or say a single word at all. I’m sure she’s embarrassed because all of this could have been avoided back in January. Or maybe she feels bad because back in January I asked for further testing and she said no it wasn’t necessary wasn’t anything to even be concerned about. But yes today I’ve spent all morning looking for a good urologist and nephrologist.

2 Reactions@susanris I went to my primary yesterday. Of course they cancelled my appointment when I got there. They said there wasn’t much of a point in discussing anything till I get the mri done. I told them why couldn’t they have called me and told me this. Since having me come here get situated come in the room and basically say have a good day see you in may. 🤦♀️
