Ascending aorta
I have posted before about my situation. First, l would like to thank everyone that responded to all my questions and concerns. You don't know how much it meant to me to know there are other people dealing with this problem and willing to share their experiences and opinions. Now, l would like to get some further opinions on my most recent updated diagnosis. I had a echocardiogram done on May, 19th 2025 at my cardiologist's office. I was told the echo showed the size to be approximately 4.0 cm. He then ordered a Coronary CT Angiogram, which was done on Friday 23rd. I met with another cardiologist today in the same office and was advised according to the CT scan my ascending aorta was 4.3 cm. Also, he said l had about 20% plague in my arties. He stated nothing to worry about at this time and his words and I'm paraphrasing, " At this point nothing to worry about just to live my life". He said l would be reevaluated in 6 months. He recommended putting me on a statin 5 mg. I thank God that it's not lager at this time. But l know they don't get smaller and over time they usually get bigger. Is this good news or I'm l being overly paranoid. I'm 63 years now old.

beverly48, my prayers go out to you. If you're having treatment at Duke, that is probably one of the best medical facility in the country. Not to get back on COVID but l was talking to a retired doctor about my situation and others. His statement to me was COVID can do some serious damage to our bodies because the virus was man made the medical field does not have much information to go on. Doctor's can only treat you symptoms but don't know what is causing it. People can disagree with my opinion but l have not felt the same since having COVID in January 2025. I wish you well.

2 ReactionsCOVID was both a life changing and physical changing event for me. I am certainly not the person I was before my COVID infection. However, I do feel blessed to still be alive. At the time of my hospitalization, when I was aware of my condition, I questioned whether I would live through it. The thoughts of my Family and especially, seeing the great grandsons grow up kept me striving to hang in there so I could watch them grow at least to enter grade school.

1 ReactionYou might also ask your cardiologist to test you for lp(a) - a high lp(a) probably caused my husband’s aortic aneurysm.
His lipid values were always stellar and we did not know about this lp(a).
In 2007 a CT showed he had a 4.3 aneurysm but it was considered okay cause of his height and size. No one warned us and he continued to lift heavy stuff, etc.. Not good.
Six month monitoring is good - they want to check to see growth rate. If it is stable you may move to a year or even longer.
not an expert but think lp(a) has more to do with blockages?plague in coranary arteries or other arteries. if high lp(a) repartha drug can bring down ldl (BAD CHOLESTEROL) TREMENDOUSLY.

@patti14 .....Try "Travel Guard"....they offer coverage for pre-existing conditions, when many do not.
