Whatever you do, don't get on to benzo. They are hell to get off of after four weeks, and don't work at all if you have a paradoxical response. The suffering is intense -- pray, walk, socialize, exercise, use lavender, try CBT.

@dollyjaneprenzelyou breath in and hold it for 4 seconds and breath out and hold it for 4 seconds. It is simple but you do this for a while until you feel calmer.

Thanks. That has been recommended, and I have done it. My problem is that it does not last as long as I would like. i.e., if I do in for twenty minutes and stop, I soon feel the anxiety building again. BUT, I will use it from now on to control my anxiety when I am, for example, sitting in the doctor’s office. And I will recommend it to a friend who is undergoing difficult chemo! Thanks for the reminder.

@tisme I want to ask a stupid question. Do you know what thoughts you are having that is causing the anxiety?

I have anxiety, thru decades of therapy, I learned to be anxious from listening to my mom fear the future. Either it was finances, health, old age, jobs, etc.
Unlike my mom that is on anxiety meds, I tried a different therapist that prescribed a device called an Alpha Stim. I had to buy this device, which disrupts electrical pulses in my brain when I am constantly thinking, where I am not able to calm my brain, close my eyes. Its perfectly safe and FDA approved.

The way my therapist explained, when we are depressed, we are thinking of the past, and when we have anxiety, we are thinking of the future. Being present is hard but doable. Going for a walk is a great way to be present. Simply being self aware of when you are anxious, also helps.

@tisme Why not try to focus on what you can control vs worry about what you cannot?

Can’t remember if I responded so here goes (maybe again).
Mine is better then it used to be but I can be triggered, and anxiety attacks feel like a weight inside my chest trying to burst out. I remember they sued to be really bad on crowded buses and once I had to get off before my stop and I fell to the ground and started throwing up. Thankfully, I’m “better” now. I have tools to combat my reactions.
I have PTSD and for years was closing my eyes when I felt severely anxious, trying to block out the problem (usually noise). I found out the VA suggests keeping your eyes open and trying to focus on something else, if you can’t take yourself away from the situation. I’m not a vet but their section in a handbook for vets helped me immensely, and then I was able to pass the booklet along to a man who I know has PTSD from combat.
Take slow, deep breaths. Try to leave the situation but if you can’t, focus on something else. Remind yourself that anxiety is a reaction, not “reality”. No one dies from an anxiety attack (although, like I said before, I have thrown up from one).

@hraka13 sound advice from someone. I use the breathing techniques they help if you practice even with small cases of anxiety. Wishes to you and have a blessed day today 🙏
