Cystoscopy, mild prostate enlargement, transurethral resection 65?

Posted by josephpreid @josephpreid, 2 days ago

I had a recent cystoscopy for both urinary hesitancy and urgency, finding mild lateral lobe occlusion, a short prostatic channel, and a small intravesical median lobe.

The urologist found a mild prostate enlargement in the form of a ball or knuckle and suggested possible improvement with a transurethral resection of the median lobe and lateral lobes.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions about the recommended procedure?

Thanks,

Joe

@wally920 shocking how many people will avoid treatment and suffer just to avoid RE. Unless you're planning more children it's not a big deal.

I get your opinion but keeping basic bodily functions is something that’s important to a lot of people and seeking a procedure that is effective and preserves function makes a lot of sense to me.

I agree and one of the reasons I chose aquablation, but I had already been on tamsulosin which caused that side effect so if it happened I could live with it. However I've seen people on this board who chose self catheterization because they were afraid of RE. My point is don't let far of RE stop you from correcting an issue that needs to be dealt with. It's easy to rationalized delaying, I did it and wished I hadn't. I used to get up 3-5 times a night, now only once. That alone made it worth the risk of RE for me.
