Stopping Tagrisso after 3 years

Posted by franciekid @franciekid, 6 days ago

Did anyone with Stage 1b EGFR lung cancer stop Tagrisso after 3 years? If so, was there a recurrence of lung cancer ? Thank you.

I’m in the same boat. Am supposed
To stop Tagrisso in June 2026, but am wondering if there’s some testing (besides CT scan) to check. I’m thinking about asking my Mayo onc about Signatera before I go off. Not sure what to do.

@whahoo No. I’m at Northwestern in Chicago. Are you at Mayo?

@whahoo A PET scan will show exactly where the cells are using up glucose You have to fast for 8 hours and then be injected with a glucose solution. After one hour, they do the painless scan. The scan is only about 10-15 minutes. The parts of the scan that "light up" are where the most metabolic activity is, usually cancer cells because they are metabolically more active than "normal" cells.

Hello, I have also joined the “ending of three years of Tagrisso treatment” club……perhaps we should all get badges from Astra-Zeneca accordingly (btw……a huge thanks to all those talented people at A-Z for developing this miracle drug!).

I had RLL lobectomy in Nov/2022 for an exon 19 deletion adenocarcinoma (staged 2a) followed by 3 cycles of chemotherapy followed by the 3 years of Tagrisso. I’ve been off Tagrisso for 1.5 months now and happy to report that the minor side effects have now dissipated and I’m feeling fine!

Now comes the surveillance phase (probably CT scans and blood work every 6 months to start). Along with this will be the lingering question in the back of our minds as to whether the cancer will return now that Tagrisso has been stopped. For me I’m very confident in the oversight provided by my Mayo oncology team and will look forward to those CT exams to confirm that I continue to be diseases free.

Wishing good outcomes to everyone else in the 3-year club!

@divemaster I was diagnosed Stage 1b. No metastases. The protocol apparently is 3 years of Tagrisso. I’ll check with my oncologist this month, but I suspect there is clinical evidence that with low stage, cancer does not recur after 3 years of Tag. I also had a partial lobectomy and 4 chemo sessions over 12 weeks before starting Tagrisso. What stage was your wife at diagnosis?

@sglaza Thanks so much for sharing this good news. Agree 100% about Astra Zeneca. Hope they can lower the price soon so more can afford this clearly life saving drug.
