Withdrawal from Trazodone. Need hope
I am on day 10 trying to wean off 50mg of Trazodone. Taking it to sleep about 6months. This is terrible. I am dizzy and weak. Very anxious. Sometimes nauseated. Have to force myself to eat Trouble walking. I am under a Dr’s care but no one helping. I got off Xanax easier. Anyone successful at this? I need hope.

I was taken off of trazodone pretty much cold turkey. I was being given clonazepam 1 MG. as well. I believe my doctor wanted me off because she felt it was not good to continue at my age. Both of these drugs were given for problems with sleep from my having been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I have had some difficulties with anxiety and panic attacks, but have attributed most of that to my present cancer problems. I am still on clonazepam, and it appears to be doing well for the sleep issue and helping a bit with the panic attacks.
I was prescribed Trazodone 50mg for sleep about 6 months ago. I really only took the full dose for a couple of weeks and then half doses then half doses as needed. I have experienced the symptoms you're describing as well, although maybe to a lesser degree. I've been able to reduce the dosage by using melatonin and L-Theanine and now am reducing even the OTC stuff. I'm currently not experiencing the anxiousness that I had. There is an end to the side effects.

1 ReactionYou need to talk to your doctor. I have been prescribed Trazadone for a sleep aide but not to manage anxiety. I guess it can but if you are having problems with the medicine with your anxiety there are so many others that may help and that you could try. I was on other medicines for anxiety and also prescribed Trazadone for sleep only.
I had to taper off trazadone very slowly. When I stopped cold turkey to try something else, I was shaky, sweaty, and anxious. It was awful. I had to go back on and taper off slowly. I don't think everyone reacts like that but my body was very sensitive to the change.

1 ReactionTrazadone made me have an extreme response. Stayed up all night fighting the feeling of a black box closing in on me on all sides. I was afraid I was dying. Even though we hear horrible things about benzos, .50 xanax has been a lifesaver for me to get to sleep. I also use 10 mg THC and 300 gaba, much as I hate the memory stuff with the gaba. I may try more THC and back down on the gaba but I have tried dropping it and adding other things and it has just never been as good as this combo.
You may have to lower the dose very slowly. I was on another med, I was very sensitive to it, it took me 6 months of gradually lowering the dose a little at a time. At the very end I took a quarter Tab every other day for a week and finally I was done. That’s not a drug I will try again.
Sounds like you are sensitive to the drug for some reason, one we probably won’t ever know why.
Go slowly!
Be patient!
I only took three and 1/2 Trazodone pills over a one week period and quit. This is my second day after quitting. Both days I have had multiple mini but very strong panic attacks, no appetite, nausea and night sweats. The thought that this could go on for weeks is deeply distressing. This is a dangerous drug and never should have been put on the market. I had a prescription for Xanax of 30 pills for sleep that lasted me two and 1/2 years. When they were gone, I had A DAY of very mild mini panic attacks nothing like I am experience now. Shame on the drug manufacture and any doctor that prescribes Trazodone.
I have been on it for years and yes it is extremely difficult to get off
of. .25 mg step down was my last having to drop off it for a few
months. Really hard to maintain a good attitude because of withdrawal
issues. Best of luck with you.
