MAC and Pseudomonas
I was diagnosed with MAC and Pseudomonas in May 2025 after having them for 8 months undiagnosed. I have mild COPD so it went to my lungs. I have been on Rifampin, Azithromycin and Ethambutol since May, and my symptoms seem ok. I know I will be on them for at least one year. I doubt anybody would know, but I am wondering how I can avoid getting it over and over again? My Dr said it is usually around dirt and water and I stay at my cottage for most of the summer.
Thank you,
Cynthia

@cwal I had nausea for a while but switched to taking it at night and sometimes take the daytime gravol.
What are u taking for the psuedanomas , I hear mac is slow moving and arikayce also works against mac. I nebulized 3,% and 7% each day. It seems to help me clear mucus . What are u doing to clearbthe psuedanomas ? And is it psuedanomas aerigenosa. ? I wish you the best.
I am on the same pills for the pseudomonas, and as far as I know that may be gone. My Dr never mentioned a nebulizer at all, but if it is no gone by July, I may ask. I am very tired of taking the antibiotics for almost a year. Thank you.
@cyndsan If you have BE, Bronchiectasis, and have mucus that isn't moving out of your system as it normally should I'm surprised you weren't told from the start to nebulize saline to help you to bring up and remove mucus.?
How is your CT Scan without contract telling you and the Doctor?
How is your PFT, Pulmonary Function Test telling you and the Doctor?
Are you stateside or out of the US.?
If in the US are you seeing a pulmonologist who truly knows all things about how to treat patients with Bronchiectasis. Some do not have the time to fully study all the new information with having much to do with what they have to do in seeing patients all day long.

I don't have a lot of mucus or at least not much at all. My breathing test is usually the same which is pretty good. I only seem to have mild COPD. although I can't imagine why, as I smoked more than 40 years. Before I was diagnosed with MAC and Pseudomonas, my lungs improved 17% I think because I do a lot of exercises to build up my lungs. I live in Toronto and have a great respirologist.
