Anyone with COPD taking Nucala (mepolizumab)? How did it help?

Posted by snoots @snoots, Dec 15, 2025

I started Nucala a month ago, it’s an injection once a month. Has anyone else taken the monthly shots, how did they help?

Well i was weak after the first couple shots however now I am not tired, and it seems to be helping and feeling better. I have Emphysema and get pneumonia about every 6 weeks and my new Doctor is really great, and I have not had Pneumonia in a long while. I know every one is different and I am a male 83 years old. I’ve never notice Nucala making me weak or tired. The one thing I did notice is it has improved my O2 saturation rates—at rest and even at altitude.

I am also a VERY rare COPD person who had the zostervax and 2 shingrix vaccines but still got shingles from Nucala. (Fortunately it was diagnosed and treatment either antiviral began 36 hours after 1st symptoms so it never left any scars and no symptoms 72 hours after I started treating either antiviral.

I hope everyone has great success either way their Nucala. For anyone on Medicare B, be sure Nucala is coded correctly as Medicare B Medical and then whatever to cover any portion not covered. They had to correct the coding for me so it wasn’t rejected.

I get pneumonia about every 6 weeks and now it has been longer .My doc sends me med when my spit up green stuff and it starts out cleat and goes to light green and Doc sent some anti bionics which will make it clear again. this is new so will see how it works Nucala really works Gibby

Looking for people who have taken Nucala as an add on therapy for your COPD? Been suggested by lung dr. As a possible next step. Just checking to see if it helps. Side effects etc..

@kat1359 hi kat, I’m actually taking my 5th injection today, I started getting out of breath just walking around my house so I found myself sitting a lot. I am on breztri and ohtuvyer which wasn’t enough so i asked my doctor about an injection medication I’ve seen on tv and was wondering how they are and he put me on nucala, it took about two weeks to start feeling the effects and I started moving around so much better and now sometimes I don’t realize I have COPD , it made a big difference for me. If I’m going to walk a bit I walk slower I have to remind myself don’t walk fast lol I’m walking around my home with no breaks sitting while cleaning or doing other chores. The only side effect I felt in the beginning I was very tired first couple days then nothing. I hope that helps you, ❤️

@colleenyoung I have been on Nucala for 4 months. It took about 2 1/2 months for me to feel the improvement. But oh what great improvements it made. I went from feeling sick all of the time to feeling pretty darn good. I can stand up to shower again , not become breathless right away. My only regret is that I didn't start it sooner. What a quality-of-life boost!

@suzyq61 didn’t you have to have a blood test to see if you have the Eosinophils in the lungs. I think it works the same as dupixent.
