Developed bronchitis like cough, nasal congestion: can't stabilize

Posted by cdward1028 @cdward1028, Dec 30, 2025

2 weeks ago I developed a bronchitis cough with nasal congestion. I have a sinus infection which I was started on levoquin for 10 days. I am bringing up copious amounts after nebulizing (Duoneb followed by 3% saline and then chest compression. Has anyone had similar issues. I feel so frustrated as nothing seems to be working to get me stabilized. It seems I continue with infections. Started Brinsupri about a month ago but seeing no improvement? Getting frustrated trying to at least be manageable. Thanks

Hello, this is not a reply but a question, How does the severity of the infection by NTM is measured? And the extension of lung damage? Thanks.

@2019mc Hi. Generally, severity of NTM infections is determined through sputum tests in the laboratory. The extent of lung damage from BE or any other condition can be seen on a CT scan. How are you doing with the coughing?

Hello, thank you. Momentarily I have not cough no secretions at all. Several month ago I had bad coughing because of E. Coli infection, was treated, now I am fine, no cough, no fever, tiredness gone. I will have a spirometry next month, until the last one, I had not lost any capacity since I was diagnosed in 2019. Yearly scans are pretty much the same but, pulmonologist want to treat because the extent of the opacities. I rather have an observant wait. If I had a concrete measure of variations I would feel more secure about my decision. I consulted another pulmo she said there was no much difference amongst the TAC but she would treat, they work together though. Thank you and all members of this forum, it is great to have your knowledge and support.

I started Brinsupri 25mg on 10/29/25. I was on it for 20 days and developed streptococcus pneumonia. (probably not related to Brinsupri??) I was off of it for 1 month and started back on December 17. I can't say it is helping as of yet. I am experiencing a prolonged cough after nebulizer/vest protocol. Dr. thinks it may be due to the increase of neutrophils without the Brinsupri (in other words a flare attack) So we shall see. As for my opinion, I am sceptical? But will continue and hope for the best.

I started Brinsupri January 2,2026. 2 weeks ago I ended up in the hospital with a wbc of 0.8. I had infections in my teeth and gums, pneumonia and brinsupri rash.
My question is since prior to this I have had chronic low wbc could the action of the Brinsupri on neutrophils have caused this dangerous drop not only in my wbc but also in my neutrophil absolute.
