Inspire Upper Airway Stimulation

Hello! I'm curious if anyone has experience with the Inspire Upper Airway Stimulation treatment (inspiresleep.com) I do not tolerate the CPAP and am feeling more hopeful about this alternative than from a dental device. So far I've read the website and watched their videos but it would be nice to hear about the experience from someone who's not connected to the company. I've gotten to this point because I've had two different CPAP's and countless masks. Nothing works. I simply cannot sleep using a CPAP. I have an appointment with a new sleep doctor (my former doctor retired) but cannot get in until November.

Thanks in advance!
JJ

Happy New Year to you too @wgatap21! It does sound promising if you read all of the hype produced by Inspire. This article was from 2017 points out some of the problems.

How solid is the evidence for an implantable sleep apnea device? NBC’s story doesn’t say

On the other hand if would be nice if I didn't have to use a CPAP every night. The decision for me would boil down to cost, risks involved and if it works for me based on the cause of my sleep apnea. Here is what Inspire says....

Thanks for responding. Some people out there are using it, I’m sure. Thanks for the links I’ve read that report and just about everything on Inspiresleep.
Have a good day

Happy New Year....So after my initial question the Inspiresleep months ago, I am assuming no one has looked into the procedure or tried it??
Tells me something? It looks very legitimate, although I have not looked into the cost, insurance situation, medicare etc. Actually waiting to see
how much info I can get!. It could be a thing of the future!

Hoping @nurseratchet1963 @jonjacobjingleheimerschidt can report on whether they may have tried the Inspire sleep apnea device. @rarelybees2889 may be familiar.

@hosta - how are things going with your CPAP?

@kd1958 - what did you end up doing to treat your sleep apnea?

I was tagged for inspire and refused. I am not overweight or severe so I should have never been picked...Multiple implants involved and implants don't have a very good safety record. Please read up very carefully before committing to this...

I tried CPAP endlessly. It made my migraine in my face accelerate a lot. This in addition to trying unsuccessfully to keep the mouthpiece in place while I slept. CPAP? 1)Hard to go to sleep with accelerating migraine, 2) hard to stay asleep,3)I finally gave up and went to oral device.

Hi @fantasylegend, I see you are new here. Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect!

Can you tell me what exactly you are looking for? a review on the device only? How you need to handle your sleep inconsistencies? What have you been diagnosed with?

I am on Day #4 after having surgery for the "Inspire" implant. I would like to find others who have information about these things:
1. Healing time after implant.
2. How many readjustments are needed after turning on the remote.
3. What healing methods can be used in conjunction with Inspire--Acupuncture, Chiropractic (integrators), Red light therapy, Magnets (5,000 gauss) (for inflammations, sprains, swelling, arthritis) Massage, TENs machines, Earthing mats.
I would NOT like to receive messages that contain any scary or negative experiences people might have had with this procedure. At present I need to hear the success stories so I can be reassured about the decision I made to have this implant.
