Heart rate increases after eating or drinking
My son has been sick about 8 months.
Dr’s have no idea.
He has extreme gas pain in stomach, feels like going to have heart attack. Heart rate and be go way up.
Cannot burp pass gas etc.
finally dr said he has POTS. . Lot of symptoms match but not all. Had a heirnal hernia fixed last month. Last week they loosened wrap to burp. Then he got 7 hours hiccups right after surgery. Took dr several hours for something to release hiccups. Nothing worked. Will get hiccups after eating.eating .
Also after eating heart rate increases a lot. Dr’s “ no idea”.
Anyone here heard of anything close to problems?
Appreciate any help.
Thank you

Hello @bl3ss3d
Thank you for adding to this discussion that was started by @mom123mcq. Many Members have had these same symptoms with MALS (abbreviation for Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome). This can be very difficult to diagnose. If you care to share more, could you tell us how you were eventually diagnosed with MALS? How long did it take to get his diagnosis?
I had a Mesenteric Arterial Doppler test done that showed a possibility of MALS. My Cardiologist then did an imaging test of which was initially done incorrectly. They finally confirmed it when it was re-done. I was diagnosed in 2018. I had the doppler test done exactly one year prior and it showed no MALS. I am not too sure how it surfaced aside from two things: 1. I have POTS and 2. I had a chiropractic adjustment done within that year where I was adjusted very differently from the usual "gun" mechanism. During this visit I left feeling very nauseous and my body was extremely sore from within 1 hour of leaving and up until 3 days after. I fell asleep in the car on the way home and slept all day and night. The nausea began instantly after have my mid back area adjusted.) Other than those two items, the syndrome does not run in my family and I have always been pretty healthy until the POTS began in 2015.

Was his diaphragm or phrenic nerves injured during surgery?
Is it normal that my heart rate increased quickly after drinking half a can of a 34 mg caffeine? I only drank half.
Yeah, even a small amount can make your heart rate jump pretty quickly. Some people are also just more sensitive to caffeine, but it’s still normal.

1 ReactionHow soon after? It would have been a small amount, but also absorbed over maybe 15-30 minutes, depending on what else your stomach was dealing with at the time. I think it's as likely that your system sensed a gas bubble from the fizziness and that may have triggered either a Vagal response or the fullness sensation may have triggered an adrenergic response...I'm not sure, and only guessing of course. Or, your heart raced for another reason unrelated to your intake of soda. You can always attempt to repeat the incident and see.

1 ReactionI think the reason why Is increasing after having something with caffeine is the amount of caffeine. Some of these drinks are very high and caffeine and I do feel there will be some medical issues down the road because of
