Upcoming lumpectomy: Is their loss of sensation in the breast?
I am having a lumpectomy in 2 weeks for a small 5mm tumor. Has anyone had experience with a lumpectomy with a tumor this size? I am curious what to expect my breast to look like. Has anyone lost sensation in the breast from a lumpectomy?
I would also love any advice to help with the healing process. I plan to take 2 weeks off from work to take good care of myself as I heal.

Mine was 17mm idc, deep, close to the chest. Surgeon elected to go in from under the breast so the scar is in the crease where breast meets the chest wall. Barely visible. I was lucky in that there was surgical path department so she was able to get additional tissue for clear margins in the initial surgery. While I was given Tylenol with codiene, I only used it for a couple days. Actually, the worst pain was where lymph nodes were removed in the armpit. Luckily that was only when extra pressure wrap was removed (to shower) and only for the first week or so. Did chemo and radiation. Currently, affected breast is slightly larger than other one (which is apparently a little weird, radiologist said they usually shrink a little after radiation) but otherwise nothing visible.

Hi I completely understand the nerves I had lumpectomy July 29 25 I cannot believe I did it I got it done very minimal scar tumor was 1.2 cm very small I then had Rad for 5 days finished in Oct and here I am had post op Mamography in Jan alls great! Next Mamography/Sono will be in July - lumpectomy surgery is quick icing on off was key for me after surgery- Tylenol first day or two no issues at all good good luck on all😊

I can imagine the diagnosis and upcoming surgery is stressful.
My tumor was about 7 mm and close to the outer perimeter of the Breast. The surgeon was excellent and the lumpectomy scar is barely noticeable. The cosmetic results were excellent.
Have you considered asking your surgeon if the scar will be minimal and mentioning you are very interested in minimal scarring while ensuring the surgery is appropriate?

The discharge was same day and with minimal
modification to activitues. However, your MD surgeon will instruct as to keeping Bandages dry, bathing instructions and Not carrying weighted packages or bags in the side of the surgery.

Hi, mine was 35 mm and I only took tylenol day after and went to work after 3 days. I do have desk job though. Make sure to do all the exercises after. My prayers.
