Incidental lung nodule different Dr opinions help

Posted by alic @alic, Feb 16 10:51pm

I recently had. ct for calcium score. Incidental lower lung nodule found either 9mm or 10mm round and part solid. The cardio said get checked my sleep apnea Dr saw me said most likely from my past infections..I get bronchitis off and on..non smoker asthma pt. He gave me antibiotics and said get pet scan! Went to a lung node dr also he said it would light up as infection so do another CT and wait w months,,his scan said it was 7mm apparently infection. No fungal test came back positive for anything. I’m so confused..could second scan be wrong? Do I have PET or wait 3 months. I’m scared

Actually the Nodify test came back positive after thinking all benign ..had bronchoscopy the next day and grateful all noses and lymph nodes showed no malignant cells. But my test was high risk so I have to follow every 3 month with scan in case it’s not seen yet. I’m so stressed out. No peace… how do I keep on with this over my shoulder..I have no way to minimize my risk. ? I feel like a pot watching to boil. Help

@alic That must be a relief, and infection can be treated. Do you know if they got enough tissue to do a culture and to find out what the infection is? What symptoms do you have in addition to the nodules? Have you been diagnosed with Bronchiectasis?

Many of our members have infections, the less severe are being watched, the along with airway clearance, quite often your body can manage them. If you have other symptoms, you will need an excellent pulmonologist to help decide when and how to treat it.

@sueinmn what happened is test came back high risk so I’m in getting a biopsy robotic all the nodes showed non malignant cells as well as lymph nodes. But I had lots of chronic inflammation and history. She said still have high risk of cancer not yet seen. Why did they just not take nodes out , I have to go every 3 months to see if it is visable. This is awful. Like watching a pot boil I feel very helpless

@alic I think you need to have a talk with your doctor about what she means by "high risk."

As for why they did not remove the nodules, invasive surgeries are avoided unless absolutely necessary. Most lung nodules are benign, so jumping into potentially unnecessary surgery is too risky.

I'm sorry you have to deal with the worry for the next few months, but it is better the risk of an unneeded operation.

Do you have someone you can talk to to help deal with your anxiety?

@sueinmn the high risk is Nodify liquid biopsy that says I have a very high risk of having lung cancer from the antibodies that tested positive. It’s why I said take it out if it’s going to turn into it. As far as anxiety no. I am, an anxious person but this roller coaster has need 3 insane months …I have had a hard year so this didn’t not help it. Thanks

@alic-Hi there!❤️ I was looking back through some of your posts, and I may have missed it, but have they done another blood test since your last one? Have you talked to an Oncologist? I’m sorry this is weighing on you and I know the feeling of having to wait to know the true answer! It can be maddening for sure! I also understand the “just take it out!” None of this is easy. With ME, I have found that if I concentrate on it all, it brings me down, makes me almost lethargic in a way, and then grouchy and just keeps going down. I figured out that I just need to keep living like I’m fine. I keep it in the back of my thoughts that something could come up one of these days and if it does, THEN, I will deal with it. The Nodules you mention are very small. I have a couple still. I have my first annual CT on April 13th. After 2 years clear they moved me from every 6 months to an annual CT surveillance. I do get a little nervous right before then, of course I don’t want to hear bad news, but for now I just keep working, walking, yard work, and going on weekend getaways. I want to enjoy life as long as I can, The anxiety is real, I know that and I know that it is hard to get out of, BUT, maybe just try to put all the worries on hold in the back of your mind and enjoy your life in the now. I pray you get GOOD news, and I will pray for you!🙏 God Bless You!

The blood test says yes the biopsy says no. See you in 3 months to see if there is cancer. You are up on all your scans so not sure it’s somewhere triggering it. Then it’s only for lung cancer test. You don’t need oncologist or PET or we can do one. All these are statements I got. I’m exhausted and have 6 upcoming different drs appointments next month. I am a chronic pain patient so this does not help the stress. I can’t find a place to feel confident and looking at me saying just wait..that’s insane …thanks for response. I think I’m depressed but not even sure of that anymore. Seems like more I try to find help the more confused I get.
