Anyone have success with red light therapy for radiation effects?

Posted by sandy8043 @sandy8043, Jun 26, 2025

I've read about it and considering trying it. Please post if you've used it for your H and N cancer healing and or radiation fibrosis.
Thank you,
Sandy

There are no claims that it does either. Please raise a wary eye before using in proven therapies to cure cancer!

I recently had a procedure at Mayo called fat grafting that has greatly reduced my neck fibrosis

I have attached a screen shot of the Spanish translation by my daughter-in-law. Adjunto una captura de pantalla de la traducción al español realizada por mi nuera.

Like many of us, I had extremely fibrotic neck resulting in the lack of mobility and a reasonable amount of constant pain. A month or so ago, I had a surgery called fat grafting (don't know the scientific name).

Here's a quick explanation. I first had Botox injections to "soften" up the major muscles in my neck. About 2 weeks later, I had the surgery. They first perform liposuction to harvest fat, for me from my stomach. Then they do some processing to the fat to extract the healthy fat cells. Then they make a couple of incision on your neck to cut small slits in the sheath of your neck to release some pressure. They also cut some of the problematic fibrotic cords in your neck. Then they inject the processed fat into your neck. For me, I got pain relief in my neck almost right away. About 2/3 of the skin in my neck feels rejuvenated, I can grab it and it feels soft. The second surgery (in October) will touch up the other third, focusing on the left side where I had the most radiation. It is being followed up with Physical Therapy to continue to loosen it up.

Looks like there's an active study for those in the New York area. https://www.cancer.gov/research/participate/clinical-trials-search/v

Looks like Sloan-Kettering is offering red light therapy to its H and N cancer patients.

If you are a patient there and have used this therapy please post your thoughts.
Thanks,

La terapia dé la luz roja, although still not medically proven effective, is understood to help considerably with healing surface issues in the face, mouth, tongue, and throat. These lights are available in many on-line shops as well as some pharmacies. The trick as I understand it is to have the proper wavelength of red light. Some units are simply a general red color rather than a specific wavelength close to infrared light.
Many patients here believe it helps considerably with pain and healing. Perhaps that is the importance. If it works for you, then it helps.

@jubilta77 Sorry, I was off grid yesterday. Several people claim it works well for tongue cancer repair. I have no personal experience using red light therapy.
I would suggest if you wish to try this, the price of the devices can vary greatly. I would not spend a great deal of money on a unit.
