Hair Loss - How To Grow Hair Back

Posted by marina26 @marina26, Feb 24 6:26pm

I was finally able to start HRT in September 2025. One of the challenges is the hair shedding/loss in the past year. Does anyone know if there are any hair treatments or vitamins that can be taken?

I take a half tablet (1.25mg) of Minoxidil daily. I started about 15 months ago, and my parts have filled back in. Since this dose gives me good results with no side effects, I plan to stay with it as is. I'm very pleased, and my hair dresser is shocked at how well it's working!

Thank you for sharing! I am struggling with thinning hair and a couple of bald spots . I am 70, and this all just hit over the last 3-4 years .
What kind of medical specialist does one see for hair loss ?

I have been taking a zinc supplement every day for about two months, and that has helped.

Also, for hair products, I use WOW (must be used with blow dryer, to activate). It really works! Makes hair thicker.

How much zinc do you take ?
I use the WOW carb infusing gel as well !! It’s a temporary fix, but it does work well❤️

@kensiejames I was battling menopause, one bout of Covid, and both sides of my family with hair loss due to aging. My primary doctor gave me the Rx. Minoxidil on its own is about $3/month. The foam did nothing for me. It's messy and extremely toxic to pets so that was a no go for me. I think it's worth trying the Minoxidil oral since it's so easy to take, but being mindful of the possible initial side effects. For me, that was slight swelling in my legs that went away in about a week. Since then, my bloodwork continues to be excellent and no other side effects - except for my hair growing back.

I am using a shampoo and conditioner called Routine. It seems to be working.

@kensiejames I requested it from my GP but a dermatologist can also prescribe. I take it along with Spironolactone. The results have been amazing in the last 6 months!

I have also found that daily scalp massages work well. Get yourself a cheap shampoo massager, at a dollar store!

I’m in my sixth month of HRT. The hair loss or shedding is challenging but so far no areas that look bald.

Thank you for reaching out.

I'm assuming that your provider started you on a very low dose of estradiol. Can you share what you started with and what the dose is now? Do you take progesterone and testosterone too? What is your provider saying about your hair loss? How often are labs done to check hormone levels?
