Emphysema

Does anyone have Emphysema and get Pneumonia about every 3 months . I also have myasthenia gravis?

@curley3 how are you feeling ?
Do you get any short of breath ?
Lung pain ?

@ktf Yes my Emphysema is stable and the MS is the cause because MA sure compromises your immune system . Thanks for the post and i hope you the best. Gil

@rosiejen68 I get some chest pains not sure it is lung or bone pain. Yes I get short of breath quite a bit. I am good most days. I also had lung cancer and had my right upper lobe remove but so far i have been cancer free. Yes I get pneumonia last time I was in the hospital 11 days.

Hi, I have emphysema and use to end up in the ER alot. My doctor put me on arithomycin 500mg 3 times a week along with Ipatropium Bromide nasal spray. Since taking these meds I have avoided the ER for 6 years now. Everyone is different but this works for me.

@masscopd My Dr did that with me also and it worked. I don’t remember my dosage though.

Be sure your hearing and heart are monitored. There can be side effects.

I have severe Emphysema but luckily never had pneumonia. (Knock on wood) I was only hospitalized one time back in June of 2024 for two nights. My O2 levels dropped and I couldn’t get them to come back up. I had an upper respiratory infection in June of 2025 but so far so good over this winter. I am not one to wear a mask so I am trying to avoid crowds. I am a little worried about my upcoming cruise in May. Cruise ships can be a “germ fest”. I enjoy going on them and so far have not gotten sick. Prayers to all of you in this journey of ours!
