Help w/Dupixent: little relief, itching @injection site after 3 shots
I stopped Dupixent 200 mg after 3 injections due to itching at injection site. There was not much relief, still short of breath while climbing stairs or walking and still coughing. Using albuterol also as well as Bevespi for copd. Reason for Dupixent allergic asthma. Question did I give it enough time to work?

I might have given it a little more time and perhaps used some Benadryl cream, BUT it depends on what the site looked like......what did the nurse in the office say or even your PCP?

1 ReactionSorry to hear of possible Dupixent allergy. It is possible that if you stayed with it up to 14 weeks, the allergy would have dissipated (14 weeks is when they see improvement if it does not happen right away). Was it general itching or just at the injection site? Did you rotate sites? Call the help line and speak with the nurses at the Dupixent company as they may have some answers.
For asthma, there are many different biologics. However, not all have been approved for COPD. Look to see what the ingredients are before you try another biologic - to see how similar/dissimilar they are. I was on Xolair for many years, and it helped until it stopped working (15 years). I tried Tespire - which only worked for 6 weeks and then I had severe exacerbation from this medication not working for me, despite continued efforts and increased prednisone. It is a different pathway in the lungs than Dupixent. I was switched to Dupixent which, thankfully, for me does work. Good luck and don't give up. Eventually, you could find something that works.
PS - I also am on arformoterol titrate (which is a long acting albuterol type medication via nebulizer). Speak with your provider to see if this would be helpful - it is not a steroid. There are also steroid nebulizers which could be helpful.

I am restarting in hopes that it eventually will help. I realize I may not have given it enough time and with the weather such as it is, I am having issues.
Thank you
my son has taken it for years. It has been a miracle treament for his asthma, eczema and allergies. If your doctor agrees please try to continue, giving it and your body more time to adjust. Try a different location and move the injection site each week. also, antihistimine topical and pill. Good luck
