Taking Miralax and Metamucil in the same day
Hi everyone who is living with abdominal adhesions. I have been trying to learn to live with this for several months now without much help from my doctors. I'm on a very low fiber diet and take a small dose of Miralax daily on doctor's orders. I normally have two or three soft stools daily but for about the last month I have been having an episode of diarrhea once a day. this is not every day but is happening pretty frequently.
My question is can I also take Meta Mucil daily to help add bulk to my stool?
Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you and good luck with your own adhesions.

@rashida thanks - but showing now that it’s currently unavailable. Looks pretty potent!
Hi
I had an SBO the result of adhesions from an operation for ovarian cancer. The SBO resulted in a two week stay in hospital nearly two years ago. So I try to be very careful with what I eat with an emphasis on small meals and no nuts or seeds. I take both Metamucil every day (teaspoon) and Miralax every night. It has worked for me. My doctor said it is ok to keep taking both. I do get occasional cramping in which case I cut out the Metamucil for a short time. I also take one tablet of Senna. This might seem like too much for some people but everyone is different. So taking both Metamucil and Miralax the same day is fine for me!

4 Reactions@janetwass, It sounds like you have come up with a great plan for dealing with the effects of surgery. I have had three surgeries of the upper digestive tract, and also take a variety of products.
How long ago was your surgery?
Hi
The ovarian cancer operation was 2023 and the SBO was a year later in 2024. I didn't know about adhesions or SBOs so it came as a bit of a shock. Now I know what to look out for. Let's hope I don't get anything more. I still worry a bit if I travel abroad and try to stick to big cities with good medical facilities! No tracking up mountains for me (although I never was one to do that anyway!)

3 Reactions@christylv Hi...I have been told I have CIC (chronic idiopathic constipation), IBS-C, and tortuous colon. I believe my lifetime constipation problems have always been caused by the tor.col. anyway, I have taken numerous different fiber supplements, forms of senna and one rx-Linzess. Not sure the Linzess helps at all...but mentally it gives me a bit of worrying relief. Currently I take one cap of Miralax with coffee in am & 1 rounded top Metamucil before dinner. Have a bm most mornings..a bit soft & loopy but I feel I got along of waste out of me! All my Dr's have told me both are OK every day for me. I still have uncomfortable belly most days. Hope this sharing helps!

In addition to these products for chronic constipation, I learned about abdominal massage when I went to pelvic floor therapy (PFT). The abdominal massage has been quite helpful to me in helping to deal with scar tissue from three previous surgeries.
If you have not yet been referred for PFT, this might be very helpful. Here is a link to a YouTube video that describes the technique I was taught: https://www.youtube.com/watch
I use this massage technique at bedtime.

I hope it helps you. First, I massage the scarred area before doing the massage shown in the video. It does make a difference for me.
@hopeful33250 thanks, me, too - I tried it this afternoon laying on my couch, and will do in the shower tomorrow - and maybe in bed later - can’t hurt!

Thank you very much for this suggestion. I have never used abdominal massage and the YouTube link was very helpful. I will certainly see if doing this is a good addition to the products I use.
