Has Anyone Tried the New drug Ibsrela for IBS-C ?

Posted by phxbarb @phxbarb, Dec 19, 2025

I saw that it was approved for adults with IBS - Constipation. I am always looking for new and improved drugs for this condition that I have had all my life. Painful hard rock -like stool with cramps and long-term occurence. So tired of it. Today the usual cocktail of laxatives did not work for me. So miserable and hoping for relief.

I have been on this for 6 days, no BM. How long did you go without supplimenting with other laxatives, before Ibsrela started working?
So the website says it can take up to 12 weeks to work, but usually starts within the first 2. Has anyone given up on this drug after 2 weeks and what did you do about having a BM while waiting? I thought this would work immediately, especially since they warn about diarrhea. I just have nothing. No cramps, no movement, no feeling about running to the bathroom. Nothing.

@phxbarb I have been on Ibsrela for 8 days, and it just started "working" yesterday. I'm curious to see how I'll do on it. I've read to take it 1 to 1-1/2 hours before eating. My doctor told me 20 minutes before...that didn't work. I think you need to play around with the timing, maybe. I've had constipation issues since I was three months old...I'm 65 now. It's a nightmare!!!

My gastroenterologist mentioned this to me yesterday; I'm always hesitant to start yet another medication. So far I've kinda - sorta managed constipation with a MiraLax regimen, but wonder if this would be better. And of course, always concerned about side effects and interactions with other medications.

Thank you

@mrskra Did you get the timing for taking Ibsrela worked out for you? I have been on it for almost 2 weeks and it is not working yet for me. I was told to take it just before eating so I have been taking it about 5 - 10 minutes before eating but no luck.

@kjcaron It did not work for me and I gave up. Back to otc stuff and miralax. Hope you have better luck. I just could not wait any longer without some progress.
