Has anyone had muscle pain in the back and legs while on Eliquis? If so could you describe the pain and location?

I dealing with side effects from blood third now and have been put on Carafate to heal my stomach of whatever irritations caused by the blood thinners. The pain for the most part is gone but the nausea is horrible. My diet has been very limited! Plain Greek yogurt/little cottage cheese , once in a while a slice f cheese, protein powder banana s, some peanut butter. And time those meds right!

@tpmcg It’s now been 10 months since I took Eliquis for 1 week and I’m still dealing with the stomach issues. No doctor offered me any real help, just PPI’s
My diet was a lot like yours until recently. I slowly added, plain cooked salmon and sweet potatoes, scrambled eggs, broccoli, avocado on toast, baked potatoes, and for a dessert, I make red jello blended with plain Lactaid yogurt with graham crackers on top. I can also eat walnuts, almonds, and cashews, 1/4 of the tube of powdered lemon lime electrolytes drinks mix. No using straws, no caffeine, no chocolate, no real sweets. It sucks.
Acupuncture helped a lot along with a nightly acupressure and relaxation routine I created. I do it every night. Finally I’m venturing into other foods but Pepcid and GasX are still my best friends

@carly14 same but I thought is was the metoprolol causing it? Is leg weakness a side effect of Eliquis?

@debmonroe yes Eliquis is a muscle weakness in the legs. I read up about it.

@gabriig sometimes the bottom of my feet feel odd. I guess wooden is a good description. I need to add they feel like they’re vibrating slightly too. Acupuncture and gentle lymphatic massage of my legs before bed has helped with that.

@moski I'll try that. Thanks

@carly14 due to lack of blood flow to the leg muscles? Or blood clots? Did you find any information about why it causes weakness?? I asked my cardiologist if metoprolol causes my leg weakness and he told me no. I will ask home about Eliquis next!

@debmonroe you can ask him, but my doctor didn’t know about it. I read it on the journal of American medical Association and that’s how I know.

I have been on it probably 6 weeks now, my joints all hurt - that is a side effect from Eliquis. It is my neck, upper back, shoulders, upper arms, legs. I am on it because of total knee replacement and after surgery I got a blood clot so they put me on it to dissolve the clot. I do not like it and need a doctor to prescribe something else and have no idea right now if the blood clot is still there. My leg is still swollen along with my foot.

Make sure they don’t switch you to Xarelto. I was switched to Eliquis from Xarelto because the pain was even worse on Xarelto. I couldn’t even turn my head on it. Eliquis just changed the location of my pain. I have huge difficulty using my hands and have signs of Duyptens contracture after only 3 months.

Yes! I now have swelling and soreness and some sort of fibrous band running from my middle (3rd) toe to my arch on both feet.

Yes, I was started on Xarelto and demanded to be switched because I couldn’t turn my head because of the pain in my neck. This was after about 3 months. Was switched to Eliquis and the neck pain improved a lot. I still hear popping when I move my head. It’s not like when a joint pops and then seems to move better. It’s a noise that happens repeatedly with head movement. Overall, really my pain just moved. Had tremendous knee pain on both. On Eliquis I still have joint and muscle pain and also have tendon pain in places that have never been injured. I have swelling in my knuckles, more than before, and can barely use my hands. I also have signs of Duypten’s contracture in both hands. I’ve lost 40 pounds because it is very difficult to cook with the hand pain and because of indigestion. And I can tell by looking that a lot of the lost weight was muscle. I have a problem in the bottoms of my feet that looks like an inflamed chord of tissue like Duypten’s. Now, looking back I can see that all the symptoms started out small and just got worse over the three months I was on Eliquis. The reason for the blood thinners was May-Thurner syndrome, which was surgically corrected and 2 DVT’s in the left leg caused by the May-Thurner.

On 5 my ankles and and legs looked like tree stumps and my feet killed me not as bad on 2.5 just one ankle swells big now. I am so depressed it kills me to watch my grandkids now. when I forget to take a pill like at night our in the morning by late afternoon my ankles are better. I cannot take statins because of the same problems. and yes my cardo does not believe me or maybe not care. getting ready to switch.
