Will exercise or PT cause estradiol patch to peel off?

I applied my first Menostar patch yesterday. I normally do exercises in support of osteoporosis and scoliosis but I'm wondering if the movement and stretching would dislodge the patch?

Yes, excessive sweating, exercise, and water activities (like swimming or saunas) can cause the Menostar patch to lose adhesion and fail, potentially affecting hormone delivery. While you can exercise, heat and perspiration can cause the patch to lift or peel off.

Key Considerations for Maintaining Adhesion:
Preventive Care: Apply the patch to clean, dry skin in an area that does not get too sweaty, avoiding oils, lotions, or creams.
Water Activity: Activities like swimming or saunas may decrease the adhesive, leading to failure.
Patch Failure Action: If the patch falls off, replace it with a new one to maintain your schedule.
Application Tip: For active individuals, applying the patch in the evening when skin temperature is lower may help it stick better.

If a patch frequently peels off due to exercise, it is recommended to discuss alternative placement or, if necessary, medical tape for extra security with a healthcare provider.

@kathleen1314 Thanks Kathleen! I was concerned about movement stretching the skin under the patch on my abdomen (for example, swinging my leg back and forth and sideways). I might be over thinking this... 🙂

Nope, I have heard others who have similar problems. One of them switched to the creams to eliminate the problem.
You will figure this out; it just may take some time.

I started bhrt last September had a large weekly patch that I had trouble keeping in place because of exercise. Didn't matter where it was. Also in the shower even if I was careful the edges would loosen. Pretty frustrating. The pharmacist suggested using a paper tape around the edges and that worked!
However, the large patches also left quite a large red circle each week. Not sure if I reacted to the adhesive or what caused it. After 2 months of fighting with it, I requested the twice weekly patch and the Dr called it in. I thpught maybe changing more often would help with the redness. They are very small compared to the weekly, no issues at all with coming loose, no red marks when I change. Much better. Not sure wjat you have, but worth a try if you have a large weekly patch.
Good luck!

I use Nexcare Max hold waterproof band aid over my patch when it becomes loose or if I want to soak in the bathtub.

@kisu Thanks kisu! Do you know what causes your patch to become loose other than soaking in the bathtub?

@psmnonna I've just started Menostar with is a tiny patch the requires changing once a week. I guess I'll find out soon if there will be any irritation. I'm on HRT to hopefully stabilize osteopenia after decades of Evista then annual Reclast infusions.

I started in Sept with the weekly patch. It was about the size of a silver dollar. The brand is Mylan (probably a generic since Medicare covers it). The twice weekly patch, still Mylan, is about half the size of a postage stamp. I almost couldn't find it in the pouch!
I am on my last 2 weeks of Tymlos injections and that will complete the two years. I've been wrestling with what to do after Tymlos since my first injection....still haven't decided. My dexa scores increased, but I don't want a bisphosphonate next, which is the usual sequence. My endo thinks that the HRT may have helped. I'm definitely staying on it and hopefully that will keep gains for a bit.
