Anyone taking GIP or GLP-1 meds with Camzyos

Posted by suzy1111 @suzy1111, Jan 16, 2024

Been on Camzyos for almost 3 months now. Don’t really see much change although echos do show improvement. Think the biggest issue is weight that even though I have always been active just seemed to keep gaining and no success with losing no matter how hard I try. Want to start taking ozempic or mounjaro or something like. Anyone here taking these meds and have any success or bad side effects when using with Camzyos?

I am about to do Mounjaro cus....wish me luck. The Dr and Dietician told me my ideal should be coming down to 80kg from 96kg and I am up to 106kg and don't seem to be shifting it.

I’ve been on Camzyos for a couple years I’m 62, male 6’3 1/2 and start weight was 277 lbs I’m on on 10mg daily..I’ve also started taking mounjaro for a couple months, I’ve lost 35 actual pounds “not water weight”.. my blood pressure has consistently been reading in the 124/88 since I started on mounjaro..only 26lbs to get to my goal weight.
I can tell you this taking my cholesterol medication regularly, taking b12 daily and not eating a heavy fat diet I’ve had very mild side effects.. I’ve had 2 or stomach aches, but none since I started b12 and regularly taking cholesterol meds..
Note.. taking mounjaro can cause gallstones (gallbladder pain) due to gastric juices .. the stones are from excess cholesterol so anyway.. I have no side effects now..
I’m gonna ask my cardiologist to lower my dose to 7.5 or 5mg, my symptoms from heart were already drastically improved ..and with my weight loss it might be improving my cardiovascular health as well.
My cardiologist appt isn’t for a month but I’ll update when I know.. my meds are prescribed through the VA.

Regards
Dave

Hi there…I have been on Mounjaro for 3 years for diabetes treatment. Went from 197 pounds to 155-160 and have kept it off. Dosage was gradually increased to 15 mg. A1C is improved. I have been on 5 mg Camzyos since Nov 25. for hcm. Gradient improved so we are trying 2.5. Mounjaro has created some bouts of diarrhea at times at the 15 mg level. Camzyos at 5 mg made me super dizzy. I am feeling well at 2.5 and diarrhea has tapered off…seems that milk and fresh fruit trigger the intestinal issue. Next echo is Monday… hoping for continued improvement.🙏
Best wishes to you!

Hope your experience is better than mine.
I've been on Camzyos 5 mg for HOCM for about a year. Three months ago, I tried Wegovy for stroke risk reduction, but had severe side effects, and quit after first dose. Still having GI issues, have unintentionally (but gratefully) lost weight, reducing BMI of 30 to 26. Although most physicians tell me the Wegovy must be "out of my system" by now, the physician I trust most has agreed that the one dose may have "flipped" some kind of switch in my hypersensitive body, and since then I've been dealing with re-activated ulcers and intolerance to all but the most bland of foods. Tired of rice and baked potatoes...but alternative is worse! Let me know how your experience goes. Good luck!

@susiewordsmith I am impressed with your BMI reduction! I do not know anything about Wegovy or any other medication I have never taken, but is it possible that one's body needs time to adjust to its presence? You may consider speaking with a dietician/nutritionist who may be able to help with your meal planning. Good Luck!

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment. Great idea re: nutritionist/dietician! Once gastroenterologist is out of ideas...that's my next stop! Thanks, again!

Thank you Debra for your response. Yes that was my first post. I have been a stalker on here for a few months now 😀. I have been on Camzyos since late October. I have not seen much improvement with my shortness of breath upon exertion and I seem to be much more fatigued as well. The weight just keeps piling on and I have no energy to do much because of the fatigue. I am post menopausal and I get what you are saying in that respect completely. I have seen my Dr very recently and she actually gave me the script for the GLP-1 but I am fearful of taking it. I was apprehensive about the Camzyos as well. The drug being so new and not
having much history of interactions with other drugs especially newer ones is concerning. Reading all the posts here has really helped me. I had so much depression and anxiety in the beginning. I thank you so much for mentoring this group. It is really appreciated. I read that you had the septal myectomy. You are brave! My dr really hasn’t discussed that much with me yet. I guess the Camzyos is the first try. I really am not very brave thinking about having to undergo any surgery. I was actually diagnosed years ago but the cardiologist at that time never told me. I had specifically gone to find that out since my mother had been diagnosed as she was going through cancer treatments. I knew it was highly hereditary. It wasn’t until about 7 years later when I was having many unexplained symptoms that another cardiologist reviewed my previous records and asked me if I knew I had HOCM. That explained a lot of my past issues with labored breathing and pain in the chest. I finally am under care of now a 3rd different cardiologist that seems to be really a good dr and fit for me. I think I am going to give the GLO-1 a chance because the extra weight plus some more now is hindering any progress I do make on the Camzyos. I recently had an echo as well which so showed a little set back. I have had all three echos now since staring. Just so Others have a reference point 1st one showed very little improvement, 2nd showed substantial improvement, 3rd showed small set back. I am still hopeful for the future. I started on 5mg and am still on 5. Just fyi to any interested I had no side effects except increased fatigue until month 3 when I started getting really dizzy. As someone else mentioned it is like vertigo not just a dizziness you get from lightheadedness. Sorry I am writing so much. For someone who doesn’t participate in these chat things usually I really talked a lot 😀. Good luck to all and thanks again Debra for being here❤️

Im having some of the same issues as you are. I started camzyos 3 yrs ago. I have a severe obstruction. I was started on 5 mg . That worked for a while then it stopped working. I was then put on 10mg I've taken it for 7 months. My first echo with it was great. I had my 6 month echo last week and they said my obstruction has increased so now they want to start me on 15 mg. That's the highest mg . After that stops working it'll be surgery. I too have gained a lot of weight the past few yrs. With the obstruction I don't have the energy to do things that I once had. I want to start a GLP1 but I'm a little scared.
