Skin that is painful to the touch
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 4 years ago. Typically on a day to day basis I am symptom free. Yesterday I developed extreme pain only when I touch my skin. This is every inch of my body. This is the third time I've developed this symptom. The first two times It resolved on it's own after about 3-4 days. I discussed this with my rheumatologist and she said she didn't know what to make of it. She wanted to do labs when I was having the pain. I did the labs and they showed nothing abnormal.

I have had skin painful to the touch since I was in my 40ties. I am 82 now. My doctor's said its connective tissue disease. I have Sjogren's and Lupus. Recently I have been using Black Castor Oil on my skin that hurts. It is an anti-inflammatory and works well. The only downside is that it can feel sticky so can feel annoying but it relieves the pain. I buy Black Castor Oil on Amazon. Good luck.

4 ReactionsWhen you say you have skin painful to the touch do you mean light touch? My skin doesn’t hurt, but underneath the skin. If I press down with slight pressure, it’s sore underneath…..similar to if there was a bruise there. It’s like that in various places. And, sometimes a painful muscle knot too.

5 ReactionsNot sure if this is it, but ehlers danlos syndrome affects your skin and tissue. It makes it more elastic and can cause all types of pain and problems. Symptoms vary, but people with EDS end up developing fibro. Just wanted to throw it out there b/c it doesn’t show up in labs. I have EDS and fibro…I don’t have skin pain, but I have other symptoms. Good luck! I hope you figure it out.
Thank you for your advise. I will do some research.
OK well I have also been diagnosed with Sjogren's and connective tissue disease. This seemed to have been some type of a flare because it only lasted three days. The oil may not be an option for me since it is my whole body. I would have to bath in it. LOL Thank you for your response.

Yes. No pain unless touched and even a light touch. Yes the pain is underneath my skin but not just in certain places it was everywhere. It felt like if you were rubbing an overworked muscle.
@robinsmm , interesting. I have wondered what causes mine for a long time.

1 ReactionI want to add to my suggestion about using Black Castor Oil. First I want to say that it is not black so that makes the decision a little easier. Also, during my childhood in the 1940ties in Boston everyone used castor oil topically for every conceivabled injury including abdominal pains and upsets. People would apply castor oil to the bruise, or painful muscle then cover it with a piece of flannel cloth. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory and works quite well. Some of the oldest remedies are the best. Diane Donohue
Hi - I have occasional painful skin as well. It's not all over unless I'm having a severe flare, but is usually the skin on my middle back and upper arms. Go figure. I have been told that it is indeed a symptom of fibromyalgia. My pain doctor prescribes a pain-relieving compounded cream that works wonders. Unfortunately, as a compound, it is not covered by insurance, but is worth every penny of the $50 that it costs.

1 Reaction@dianedonohue I recently bought regular castor oil (I didn’t know about the black but am trying to avoid Amazon and was able to get the regular at Walmart) and found directions on Pinterest on how to use wraps on different parts of my body for multiple health problems. I haven’t had the chance to start yet but the information referenced castor oil being used before ‘real’ medicines existed and for everything, so it is good to hear that it’s working for you! I really need to start using it.
