Salty tast in my mouth from diagnosed with Sjogren's
I was tested positive for Sjogren in 2019. My condition is very odd, other than dry mouth, I have salty taste in my mouth all day since 2021. I went to see a ENT, they tested me for nose cancer which turned out to be negative, they did biopsy on my mouth, they can't find anything wrong. I went to Irvine Clinic Research and did another biopsy on my mouth and same result. They found nothing. I am a 60 years old & in top shape of my life (work out 4-5 times a week), no health issues & not taking another prescription drugs since I am so healthy, except the salty taste in my mouth. I have not been able to taste food like I used to. Everything I eat taste salty. I am wondering anyone from this group has the same issue like me, please share how you combat this problem.

@thisnthat Great that you don't have the salty taste all the time but yes, it is annoying to taste salt when drinking water!! My dentist told me that with dry mouth, which I have too, water only helps for a few minutes and then evaporates. She said it's better to use the biotene or other products that are made for dry mouth because they provide a coating that stays much longer than water. I didn't like the gel but I do use biotene rinse and trident gum which has xylitol. There are also two different pills that some people take that make you produce more saliva but my insurance doesn't pay for them and they didn't help the salty taste for me.... Good luck!!!!
I suppose Sjogrens must work in some way inside the mouth itself. I haven’t been diagnosed with that and feel my issue is not dry mouth. I gave up on gum, because it was so temporary. I am glad that the intensity of mine has decreased though it has been constant since 2023. It can very distressing.
@celia16 Hope you are not in the middle of this snowstorm. We had about 6 inches and now it's sleeting!!! UGH. Luckily the gum does help me and it works much better than the two prescription medications worked and they were super expensive and not covered by my insurance. I also use Biotene and non alcohol listerence which both help for about 2 hours. My day consists of going from gum to mouth rinses.... My primary care agreed to try me on duloxetine which is the Cymbalta generic and it seems to be taking the edge off, especially the salty taste. The gabapentin did nothing to help so even if this cuts the misery in half I'll be okay with it. Glad your issue has not increased since we started communicating!!

1 ReactionI have not been diagnosed with Sjogrens Syndrome, but I believe I have same symptoms. At night my cheeks are stuck to my gums and it's hard to swallow. My PCP says there's nothing to do for it, just manage side effects/symptoms. I'm trying to drink more water, but doesn't seem to matter.
@connie2146 I have sjogrens , I take Cevimeline 3 times a day and it helps
@sharrondriver
How did you get an actual diagnosis? I've also had REALLY dry eyes for ever.
Could a European mini face-lift cause problems with saliva glands. I had this in 2020, due to aging skin. I had a full face-lift in 2003, after losing a lot of weight, and (this sounds weird), but I would salivate, get moisture on the area just below and a little in front of my right ear. My Dr. said it was a saliva gland, that when the skin was tightened was too close to the surface of my skin. He said it would go away and it did.
@sharrondriver I was diagnosed with Sjogren’s this past summer my blood test did not show anything, so I went to an ENT and had a lip biopsy which came back positive for Sjogren’s
