Ascending Aortic Aneurysm & Bicuspid Aortic Heart Valve
I’ve been diagnosed with both. I’m wondering if anyone else in the group has been diagnosed with both of these maladies and what their treatment plan has been.
It appears that surgery is recommended sooner than if only with AAA. If you had surgery, did they fix bot the valve and the aneurysms or just one of the two.
Waiting for my cardiologist to contact me with his treatment plan.

@cobweb why no surgery if you’re in good physical condition?
@rockpir DR said he was going to wait until it got to 5.0 or larger, and now he says at my age the recovery would be very difficult. I am 85 and look and act like i am 60. I have no problem with not having the operation. I have lived a good life, now a caregiver, and i know if it blows i will not need hospice. Several friends were playing tennis and died before they hit the court.

2 ReactionsI have both diagnoses the same as you plus a connective tissue disease/Rheumatoid arthritis. This could cause difficulty with seeing my heart tissue up. The cardiologist said that as we age the heart muscle gets stiffer, especially with RA. So my plan is to go to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, which I think is the best. I’m still looking into which Mayo Clinic is the best. I live in Virginia, so I am planning on moving into that area for at least four months maybe six months and preferably over the spring/ summer time. I am 64 years old and at 4.1 cm, so I believe I have a little wiggle room. I’m going to schedule appointments for fall 2026 and make the trip them to be assessed. From what I’ve heard your heart ejection fraction is an important lab value to watch because that shows how flexible the heart muscle is and if surgery is possible. My EF factor is very good so that’s why I’m not feeling the need to rush and my ascending aorta aneurysm is just 4.1. Still, having surgery will be an open heart procedure and I don’t know if they do both at one time. I certainly hope so and the recovery will probably be lengthy. I really was considering not going through with the surgery, but I decided it’s worth taking a trip and at least letting them tell me the details. I was very tired about this for a year and then I went to church and was prayed over and anointed with oil and God‘s peace has been with me since. It’s still not pleasant, but I’m walking in God’s peace. I’ll pray for you, too. Let’s keep in touch since we both are in similar circumstances. Kay🌺

3 ReactionsIt seems a few of my words were misspelled. The main thing I need to correct is that the heart muscle can get stiff and difficult to SEW up. Like literally pulling the needle and thread through. That’s why you want to keep a look at your EF factor. Mine gets too stiff due to my RA, they may tell me I’m not a candidate for surgery. So far I’m not hearing this so I want to find out when would be optimal for me to have the surgery. I’m still not sure. I’ve got the guts to go with surgery, but I want to know all my options.
