Sores on tongue, sides of mouth.

Posted by suecutuli @suecutuli, Jul 13, 2025

Well Yay another issue! Idk where to put this but it’s extremely painful and annoying. Around March our tree pollen was high and I started using Naselcort.
My allergies symptoms are weird -
But the part I had is the severe tiredness and irritability. I even left my home and went on vacay! I know I was very lucky to be able to. My mouth did seem to improve and then
It’s gotten really bad again. I can’t eat any spice! I must use my granddaughters strawberry toothpaste - so many things hurt. I did go
To the doctor but because my appointment was for
Something else they didn’t help me. I’m assuming now
I have some sort
Of histamine problem? I have positive ANA speckled 1:80 titer.
This is so hard
Bc my chronic pain is becoming worse and to deal with this makes
Me very depressed. I looked at
Both sides of my tongue last night and both sides
Have blisters? My inside
Cheeks also have white
Swatches? ANYONE?????

Maybe you’re better, this post is old. I hope the figured it out. My ANA and titer and pattern is just like yours. I also get all the tongue and mouth sores. I do get herpes that do that often in my mouth. Yiu can get a blood test to rule it out.
Every time I go to the dentist it can set it off, stress and so many other issues. I’m extremely sensitive to spices and salt and salty foods. I’ve gone the entire gambit after the positive ANA but my numbers have been this way since 2017.

My results border Sjogrens and mixed connective tissue disease but the numbers are not elevated a lot and I’ve not committed to a lip biopsy. When it comes it’s extremely painful and like you toothpaste can be terrible. I use Tom’s of Maine.
I have severe dry eyes and mouth too. It’s so bad it’s decaying my teeth.
Right now I have no sores but severe burning inside my mouth and my tongue. It’s all so strange but it’s so painful. I have other health issues but wish this had a diagnosis. Hope since you posted you have figured it out. I myself think it’s auto immune but that’s a needle in a haystack. Best of luck.

@mothermary1 There's a fairly recent test that can give earlier indication if Sjogren's is a possibility. The basic test that's been used for years registers after there's been damage from Sjogren's. This test was developed not as a firm diagnostic tool but to try and identify changes in the salivary and parotid glands early so doctors could get ahead of the damage. My rheumatologist used it as part of my workout and it gave indication along with my symptoms that I was likely dealing with Sjogren's. @mothermary1 what about burning mouth disease/ oral lichen Planus. I have had two lip biopsies. Not pleasant but doable. Tongue biopsies I have had two as well. Horrible. POS Ana as well. Dry mouth etc. on Plaquinil and have had some success. Derm who sees autoimmune disease of mucosal tissue. Oral Medicine specialist. Hard to find. Usually at a dental school. Can also be part of ENT or Derm.

My experience may not apply to you. But, most toothpaste uses SLS, sodium lauryl sulfate and it absolutely wreaks my mouth and tongue. Weleda Calendula toothpaste is very calming once I start a break-out. Otherwise I avoid SLS completely. I also have Sjogrens.

@cpog
I hope this helps: I plan to make a mouth wash that I read about for mouth sores.
Here it is:
4 cups of water; 1 teaspoon baking soda; 1 teaspoon salt.
All the best.

I have Bechet’s diseases and one of the symptoms is reoccurring mouth sores. I’ve had 12 at one time. I get the on my gums, cheeks, tongue, and throat. When my sores get bad I sure prednisone to heal them up faster. I also found magic mouth wash, chlorhexidine gluconate mouth wash, and clove oil to help treat them.
