Hi @jeffdief. I'm afraid I don't have any personal experience to offer you, but I did do some research. Studies do show that taking a GLP-1 can slow the progression of chronic kidney disease and lower the risk of kidney failure. The National Kidney Foundation has some really great information on how GLP-1 meds work and how they offer protection for the kidneys. There's also a really good interview you can listen to, just look for the "Hot Topics in Kidney Health" box under the "What are GLP-1 Medications" title on this page: http://kidney.org/news-stories/what-to-know-about-glp-1-medications-if-you-have-kidney-disease
Have you talked to your doctor about starting a GLP-1 medication?

3 Reactions@jeffdief that is a good question. I was wondering that too. @klp good answer. Thank you for the information.
That's interesting. My Nephrologist put me on Jardiance/Farxiga about a month ago. I bought a generic version and had it shipped from Canada, for about 1/3 the cost of my Part D plan coverage. I believe I read it helps your kidneys handle protein better.
I had my semi annual appointment with my Hematologist two weeks after starting Farxiga (I also have MGUS) and was very surprised when he told me my M spike was gone, after he'd been following that for ten years. Seems like it has to be related.

1 Reaction@klp I see my kidney Dr. in 2 weeks and I am going to ask her about taking GLP-1 med . I am watching what I eat but can not lose any weight , also looking at the weight lose benefits of the GLP-1 meds. I have been looking into all the information about GLP-1 meds that I can find and it all seems very positive.

I see my kidney doc next week. I had some encouraging test results from Dec. 5th to Jan 20th.
My creatinine went from 1.98 down to 1.44 about a 25% drop, my Urea from 25 up to 29 about a 20% increase and my eGFR from 35 to 51 up about 40%. very happy with results. I think after the holidays I got back on track with my eating habits which helped with the results. I am still going to talk to the doc. about the GLP-1 meds. I rarely eat red meat and no dairy, lots of fruits and vegs, fish, chicken, turkey and lean pork. Only I can not seem to lose any or much weight. Hopefully I can get on the GLP-1 meds for that . Glucose @ 93 without fasting.
